Photography is about much more than snapping a picture of a subject. True, selection of subject is a critical first step to a good picture, but so much more is involved. For me, the objective of photography is to capture the essence of the subject at hand, while conveying the photographers mood and feelings toward the subject. This is much more involved than snapping the shutter on an expensive dSLR. Furthermore, I feel photography changes the I you look at the world. When shooting, one has to decide which elements should go into a good still, and which elements will distract and subtract. I feel this has taught me to better see and appreciate everyday life.
