Classes at Alexander's Martial Arts
American Karate, Shin Nagare Karate,
Judo, Kickboxing, Kardio Kickbox, & Judo
American Karate is a modernself-defense
system that evolved from the kickboxing ring. The primary "fighting" stance
is similar to a boxing stance except that it is a little less forward with
the knees a little less bent. Rather than focusing on single hard blocks,
strikes, and kicks, American karate integrates quick fluid blocks, strikes,
and kicks. To add to the self-defense value of our program we incorporate
a limited amount of Shin Shin Ju-Jitsu in the form of throws, falls, chokes,
joint locks, and takedowns. This grappling work coupled with a mobile and
fluid striking and kicking art makes for an extremely complete self-defense
system. The striking and kicking portion of this system also converts readily
to both point competition and to full contact kickboxing.
Shin Nagare is a Shotokan derivative
karate system with forms similar to the Heian katas of Japanese Karate.
Shin Nagare focuses on the strong stances, blocks, and strikes delivered
with power. This portion of the curriculum is designed to teach discipline
and focus as we as keeping the traditional system intact. We incorporate
a limited amount of Japanese Kobudo (weapons) training with the Shin Nagare
system. The over all result is that our students are very well educated
from both a fighting and from a traditional standpoint.
We offer a western style kickboxing
program. Our instructors are PKC certified officials. Huntsville Martial
Arts' program that produced Two State Title Holders in the first year of
the program! Once a student has reached the Green Belt level in American
Karate, they are allowed to participate in the kickboxing class. This class
is designed to accommodate students of both genders with an interest in
kickboxing for either fitness or competition.
Kardio Kickbox is a workout class that
incorporates the movements of Karate, Tae Kwon Do, Boxing, and Kickboxing
as its fundamental movements. This class is designed to accommodate all
fitness levels. Kardio Kickbox has been reported to be "the most effective
aerobics workout" by "Muscle and Fitness" magazine, burning over 800 calories
an hour. Our instructors are some of the only certified instructors in
the state.
Our Judo program is a combination of
Judo and an Aiki-JuJitsu system (Shin Shin JuJitsu). The class works as
a group through most of the throwing techniques and traditional Judo techniques
and then they divide into students more interested in traditional Judo
and to students interested in grappling techniques employed in the "no-holds
barred" type competitions. This division allows students to work at their
interest level.
