He has led them into dangerous situations on several occations, including when the YAMATO suffered fairly extensive damage during the BATTLE of Starbase OMEGA. During the battle an unexpected visitor appeared aboard the YAMATO, pulled from a mirror universe by the interaction of the YAMATO's phase cloaking device and the artificial wormhole generators used by the Dalriada. This unexpected visitor was Dr. Janna Swansen, who was killed in the line of duty aboard the USS BISMARCK while Isaac was an Ensign. In her universe, however, it was CMDR Jeremy Gorne, her finace and XO of the BISMARCK who had been killed. There, a younger Isaac Stern had been able to comfort her after her loss and profess his love for her. They had married and moved on with their lives. At first Isaac is cold and abrupt toward Janna, but she finally gets him to reveal that he felt the same way about her as his counterpart did. He also takes it upon himself to return her to her own universe, no matter what the cost. The cost, it turns out, might be his career. The only way to return Janna to where she belongs involves developing a wormhole generator like the one the Dalriada use. That requires Burrasite from the planet Burrakis within Dalriadan space. The YAMATO abandons her normal patrol route to go to Burrakis to get the Burrasite. During the attempt to return Janna to her universe, the YAMATO is forced to flee through the wormhole to evade several Dalriadan warships. On the other side it is revealed that Isaac's counterpart had abandoned all hope of ever seeing Janna alive, and had moved on. Janna persuades Isaac to take her back with him to his universe. He reluctantly agrees knowing that he is certain to face a Court Martial for entering Dalriadan territory. Isaac's first command experience came as the Operations Officer of the USS PROMETHEUS. He soon assumed the position of Executive Officer after the original XO was recalled by Starfleet Intelligence. He served as the PROMETHEUS' XO for almost a year before getting his own command. Isaac's tour aboard the USS BISMARCK was very sucessful. He learned a lot about himself and life in Starfleet. He bacame a good engineer and a good officer. He sometimes misses the BISMARCK and her crew, and has good memories of both. On stardate 80620, while on a mission to investigate the origin of free soliton waves, he was in mental contact with a member of an unknown, but apparently friendly alien species for approximately 30 minutes. During this period a large quantity of mental images were placed directly in Isaac's brain. These images surface on occation, but to date they have not formed any coherent pattern. Isaac's interpertation of the images is that they are the technology behind the free soliton wave generator. He's not sure where this insight comes from. Family History: Isaac can trace his lineage to the small group of scientists that left Earth for Alpha Centauri with Zephram Cochrane. In the mid 23rd century, a group of Jewish leaders sought to establish a colony on New Cannan. They looked to the flourishing community on Alpha Centauri for help. Several of Isaac's ancestors with the skills necessary for establishing a sucessful colony ventured to New Canaan with the group from Earth. Isaac's parents are doctors at the New Canaan Medical Center. His father is from a long line of physicans. His older brother, David is in his last year of medical school. His father was very dissapointed when Isaac decided to attend SF Academy, but his mother convinced him not to "do something stupid." Isaac and his father have since resolved their differences.
