The Family of William Benjamin Ford
From Tricia Smith

William Benjamin Ford was born 10 Nov 1846 in Benton (Calhoun) Co, AL and died 14 Oct 1919 in Etowah Co, AL. He married 1) Elizabeth "Betsy" Maddox 4 Feb 1968 in Calhoun Co, AL, daughter of Justinian Maddox & Margaret Hughes. She was born 8 Jan 1849 in Benton (Calhoun) Co, AL and died 25 Nov 1891 in West Gadsden, Etowah Co, AL. He married 2) Catherine Love.

William and Betsy are buried at Hopewell Baptist Cemetery in St Clair Co, AL.

*Census Records:

Wm B.

1850 Benton Co, AL w/parents

1860 Calhoun Co, AL w/parents

1870 Oxford, Calhoun Co, AL occupation: school teacher

1880 Gum Springs, Etowah Co, AL occupation: farmer

1900 Gum Springs, Etowah Co, AL occupation: farmer

I'm not sure exactly what year this Ford family moved from Calhoun to Etowah Co, AL, but it was probably about the same time Betsy's parents moved. Her father operated a mill on Canoe Creek at the Etowah/St Clair Co, AL. I believe they had moved sometime before 1877 as they have an infant that died in that year and is buried at Hopewell Baptist Cemetery in Northern St Clair Co, AL.

I haven't located Wm B. on the 1910 census yet. He wasn't still living in the Gum Springs area, though. My guess is that he married Catherine Love before then and moved to another area of Etowah Co. I have no information on Catherine yet.
