B&B 13-mile Bike Hike

8:30 AM  B&B Restaurant (Huntsville Brownsferry Rd & Burgreen Rd)

This is a short 13 mile bike trip is one of many optional trip opportunities designed to help scouts fulfill one of the cycling merit-badge trip requirements.  This is also an excellent opportunity for the boys not pursuing the badge to make sure their bikes (and legs) are ready for the overnight ride in two weeks.  Parents are encouraged to share the ride (I’ll need at least one).  The trip route can be accessed at http://mapmyride.com/route/us/al/athens/956136386026.  This ride should take no more than 2 hours.  The 8:30 start time is designed to minimize traffic interaction and avoid weekend schedule conflicts.  The B&B Diner will be open for breakfast or lunch for those that are so inclined.

Mileage Opportunity: “All You Can Eat Century”

8AM  Madison County High School

In bicycling, a “Century” is a trip of 100 miles.  This particular outing is sponsored by Huntsville’s Spring City Cycling Club.  Although this is not a Scout-sponsored outing, it is an excellent opportunity for the boys’ to fulfill a merit-badge trip requirement and enjoy the advantages of a community-sponsored cycling event.  Riders pay $30 to benefit the Madison County high school soccer teams.  Riders 12 and under are free.  You must register online.  Follow this link for more information.

Some Troop 350 scouts plan to do the 50 mile option.  Others may choose the 22 mile option if adequate adult supervision is available.  The 22 mile option will count as a 25 mile trip toward the merit badge.
