Here 's a strange anomaly between two copies of the SAME EDITION of the Bentley Manual for the Vanagon. Both copies are shown as Copyright 1991 Volkswagen United State, Inc. Editorial closing July 15 1991.

The top image shows page 27 of the Technical Data Appendix as having a drawing of the Vanagon Waterboxer cylinder layout. The bottom image shows the same page without an illustration. No wonder these things cost so much, disappearing ink is expensive.

For those who can't read the image but need to know what the cylinder layout is, it's this:

Standing behind the engine bay, looking toward the front of the car,

• Number 1 is furthest from you on the right
• Number 2 is nearest you on the right
• Number 3 is furthest from you on the left
• Number 4 is nearest you on the left

The distributor rotates clockwise.
