One of the things that the Westfalia designers forgot to include in the excellent Westy package is a way to exhaust cooking smells. And if you've installed a propane heater that's not vented to the outside, it is imperative that you provide ventilation to replace the oxygen that the heater will consume.

I used two (FREE) four-inch computer fans and wired them into my fluorescent light fixture wiring. I used small self-tapping screws to fasten the fans to three points of the plastic window screen frame as you can see in the picture.

I epoxied a Radio Shack slide switch in place on each to control the front fan (with the window just cracked) or both fans (with the window fully open).

The stove top cover, when fully open, comes just to the bottom of the fans. Be sure to note where the slide switches are placed. You really have to pull back the curtain on from the front fan if you want to access the switch easily. Mounting the switch as shown makes it easier to locate under the curtain. The switch mounting position on the rear switch doesn't matter so much.

These draw so little current that you can run them all night without running down your battery.

Use them in conjunction with the magnetically attached awning featured on this site and you're in business rain or shine.

Two four-inch fans can be used to keep air moving. I try to be as non-destructive as possible with my modifications, but this one will leave three small holes in the upper right and left corner of your screen window frame. Use small screws and you'll never notice the holes if you remove the fans.
