Cheap but
effective. I haven't heard a sound out of my rear table since installing
this Home Depot magnetic cabinet latch. I found everything I needed
(except a wooden 1/8" shim) in the cabinet hardware section
for $1.38.
Everyone with a Westy knows that you can't
tighten the rear table enough to keep it from knocking against the
wall when the car travels over bumps and ruts, whether in town or
at camp.
Be sure to buy a double-set as shown here.
You'll need to cut a paint stick or other 1/8" material so
that the latch can be mounted underneath the table and completely
clear of the lip of vinyl edging. Notice too that the screws fastening
the latch are all the way to the rear or the latch to allow the
face of the magnets to contact the steel plates that will be mounted
on the wall. If the magnets don't contact the steel plates squarely,
the table won't hold to the wall.
I had to drill holes at the back of the latch
as the screw slots did not go back far enough.
Once the magnetic part of the catch is mounted
to the underside of the table, put the table back onto its arm and
swing it into place to locate the catch places. Mark the magnet
location with a pencil, and tape the strike plates to the wall.
Pilot drill and install the supplied screws.
It's ready.
