Gentlemen you have finished the first day and you heard 5 great talks, 3 from lay persons just like you and me and 2 from clergy persons. [Write titles up on the black board and leave some room on the end] Take a minute to look at these titles and then tell me what do you think we were trying to convey to you today. [Short list of answers] Well some of you were close [or not] but the real idea of today was to find out at the end of the day “What, as Christians, we must be”. What we must be!! [write this in the middle of the board]

[If you put this on the board try to put it in the shape of a wing, on the left side of the board, point each talk toward one statement in the middle of the board “WHAT WE MUST BE” and enclose it to look like a wing only after you finish speaking]

FIRST WE APPEAL TO YOUR MIND-- Consider “IDEAL”----THE CALL TO BE FULLY HUMAN---- we are asked to mingle to interact with others otherwise we are not going to fulfill our human destiny. No man is an island.

Next a Clergy person asks us to consider “GRACE”----A FREE GIFT FROM GOD INVITING US TO A PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP WITH HIM----Strength to help us make the leap from self love to love others outside of ourselves.

THEN WE APPEAL TO YOUR WILL-- Consider “LAITY”----MEMBERS OF A GROUP WITH A MISSION----Encouraging each of us to join with others of like mind to build the kingdom of God.

Next a clergy person asks us to claim our “FAITH”----ANOTHER FREE GIFT, BUT YOU MUST ASK FOR IT & WANT IT---Faith isn't religion it is a belief in God and in His all encompasing love for us individually and collectively.

FINALLY WE APPEAL TO YOUR HEART-- Consider “PIETY”----A WAY TO GET DIRECTION A PROCESS OF GETTING TO KNOW THE GIFT GIVER---God wants us to have regular conversations and discussions with Him over everything.

We started last night with a silent retreat so that you would have time to reflect on “why you came here”. On this first day we want to help you answer that question so we appealed to your whole person. Your mind [write it in front of “IDEAL”]or intellect, your free will [write it in front of “LAITY”] and your heart [write it in front of “PIETY”] to consider “what you must be”. See this wing and also realize that the PALANCA you saw today is the glue holding it all together so it has the possibility to function.

Each talk during the day and each successive day is modeled in the same way and each talk on each day is progressively more pointed to the conclusion of this weekend and hopefully a freewill commitment by each candidate to embrace the cursillo method.
