New Office Building in Covington, LA

Douglas A. Green and Associates recently teamed with several other professionals to construct an office building in a rapidly growing area of Covington,  Louisiana. Construction is near completion and I was anxious to take a look before the official opening, scheduled for late January 2005. So between Christmas and New Years, I asked my good friend Charles Thomas to accompany me over to Doug's house in Folsom and we would have Doug take us to the new building and show us around. It was a beautiful day, sunny and not too cold. All of Doug's children were at home from school at the time, so it was a good opportunity for me to visit with them as well with Mary for a short time.

After arrival at Doug's we had a photo taken with the Grandchildren, who were still in a post-Christmas-happy mood, although it took a couple of attempts before we got it right. Mary, as the official photographer, was very patient though.

The building was a little larger than I expected. Although Doug told me it was 20,000 square feet, I just didn't put those numbers to thought and envisioned a sort of strip mall type. But this is far beyond that, as you can clearly see. Doug's office is on the second floor at the extreme right end.

Here is a photo taken in Doug's office. Obviously, there still is some work to be done before it is ready for occupancy. Abbey did not come with us because she had a date with a fellow that she attended the Louisiana School with.

Rear of Office Building

Here is a photo taken of the rear of the building. The builders intend to lease the upper floor to their own businesses and lease out the bottom floor to other professionals, hopefully Doctors, Dentist's and other types along those lines. So they made sure there was ample parking in the rear to accommodate doctor's who usually have patients waiting for sometimes hours before seeing them.

The Camp

Camp Addtion 2004

Lastly, here is the 10 x 20 foot addition I'm having put up at the camp. It was a little foggy the morning when I took this photo. I needed room for honey extraction and storage of the stuff that goes along with that. Last summer I ruined part of the carpet in one of the bedrooms when honey spilled over onto it , so I figured that was enough of that. Carpet and honey do not go well together. The roof of the addition is going to be a continuation of the present roof. Since the present roof is about 15 years old, and I need a roof over the new addition, I decided to have a new metal roof put over the entire area. That way it would look continuous and not like a new addition, plus I wouldn't have to replace the old roof in a few years.

For what it's worth, I've added a more recent photo of the camp. This was taken late February after the new roof was installed. The vinyl siding is not up yet due to a problem in delivery, but the electricity and plumbing additions are in as well as the doors.
