November 2006 Update
Some progress has been made on the recovery at Turks Head. The sand guy put some sand down on about two of the four lots and the rain has smoothed it out more or less. It looks pretty good and I will ask him to do the same to the other two lots. That way all the mud will be covered and will provide a much nicer ground cover for the grass.

The carport has been straightened up now and the camper moved onto the concrete under the carport. The camper is level and hooked up to electricity, water and sewage. All I need now is cable TV, ha, ha,,,.

Here's another view of the camper.
Meanwhile, my neighbor across the street has been making good progress with his rebuilding efforts.

Jeff has built his new home on steel supports instead of the traditional pressure treated wood ones. They are also about ten feet high. The concrete slab is about 20 inches above ground level, so his first floor is about 13 feet above ground level, or about 17 feet above the mean water level. It's unlikely any water will get in his second floor in event another Katrina hits here.
Jeff has some volunteer help working with him on his rebuilding. Here are a
couple of fellows from South Carolina that are members of an interesting
organization named Foot 2 Water. On the left, Ike Boyette, Director, and next to
him Barry Welch pose with Jeff for this photo.
Foot 2 Water is named from the Biblical Peter, the only human being that walked upon water. Their Mission is: A single-minded pursuit of demonstrating God's love through people serving people. Their target is low income and event devastated communities such as this area. And their focus is spreading the love of Jesus Christ through action.
Ike and Barry are among hundreds of like-minded individuals throughout our nation that demonstrate God's love by serving their fellow men who have been dealt devastation too great for them to handle by themselves. May God Bless them! Our thanks go out to all of them. There is no way for us to adequately repay them for their kindness except for us to do the same after we have recovered.
