Katrina Slideshow Albums
During a recent trip with a friend to the camp, we made a series of photos and formed two albums that offer a slideshow view of some general scenes taken in the area. One album shows us fixing the boat hoist motors. These two motors are about 20 feet above the water but were under water during the storm. When we tried to operate them in October, we found they were locked . So we saturated them with the ubiquitous WD 40, gave the shafts a good whack with a hammer and got them to turn freely. We then cranked up the generator and using these temporary connections we were able to get them running. We were not so lucky with the well water pump. It was also locked and when we worked that, we could not whack the shaft because of the ceramic water seal. So we had to work the rotor loose by removing the housing and turn the rotor by hand. After we reassembled the motor and applied power, we discovered the start winding on the motor was not working and that the motor needed to be replaced.
