I and so mustered but was (unknown to us) at the time with the rebels they having returned him to duty after they captured him from us. He was returned as a deserter by in [sic] June, 63, and captured from the rebels since that time and sent away as other rebel prisoners were. He also directs me to say that we do not wish to have anything more to do with him here as a federal soldier for we believe him to be a rebel in fact.
