Freddi and the Dreamer
(The Arnold Corns Sessions) -
Andy Warhol had The
Velvet Underground, Bowie had Freddie
and Arnold (2 stylish,
non-musicians he met on the club circuit. His goal was to become mentor/guru
while capitalizing on his own fame. The actual tracks on this disk are
scarce and were brought to light by a obscure Scandinavian label that
released them in the early 70's. Not all was lost in these sessions, 2
standout songs; Moonage Daydream and Hang on to Yourself would
find space on Bowie's Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars.
Here Today
(2CD)
- A collection of rare & unreleased live tracks including studio material
from the Young Americans era.
Highly Acoustical -
Review:
A collection of rare acoustic
performances of David performing live at various locations and dates around
the globe. (1996-97) Excellent Quality. Most of the tracks posses a
different / cooler sound. It may have been the enthusiasm from the stage or
a combination of audience reaction to the tunes. All in all, they're all good
but #3, 4 really knocked me out.
Tracks:
1. Scary Monsters (Smith's Olde Bar, Atlanta, 8th April 1997), 2. Seven
Years In Tibet (Smith's Olde Bar, Atlanta, 8th April 1997),
3. Superman
(Part) (Smith's Olde Bar, Atlanta, 8th April 1997), 4. The Jean Genie

Starman In Session
-
Review:
Another outstanding
BBC
performance from Bowie. David sings his most
famous tunes and some obscure tracks that most fans just don't hear on
classic rock stations.
I strongly recommend this disk and
"The
Essential David Bowie" for a
complete
Bowie package.
The '69'
Tapes - Studio demos recorded with
Mick Ronson in 1969. If you're looking for some unique Bowie tunes not
readily available elsewhere - this disk is a very worthwhile listen. Songs
are: Right on Mother, Lady Stardust, Waiting for the Man (Velvet Underground
song), Little Toy Soldier, Space Odditty and The Superman.
The Essential David
Bowie
(EDB 1-2-3) (3CD) - Notes: This
three disc set has been produced directly from the master tapes compiled in
preparation for the aborted "Bowie at the BBC". As a bonus, the disks
contain a set of demo & studio recordings from 1967-1969.
VoL1: Emerged From Shadows (EDB 001),
VoL2:
Kiss The Viper's Fang (EDB 002),
VoL 3:
Nobody's Children (EDB 003)..Exellent sound
quality.

Vampires of Human Flesh
(Scary
Monsters Demos and
Alternative Versions)
- Production notes:
According to co-producer Tony Visconti, Bowie's method on Scary Monsters was
somewhat less experimental and more concerned with achieving a
commercially-viable sound than had been the case with his recent releases;
to that end the composer spent more time on his own developing lyrics and
melodies before recording, rather than improvising music in the studio and
making up words at the last minute.[2] Aside from one cover, Tom Verlaine's
"Kingdom Come", all tracks would be credited to Bowie alone, unlike the
'Berlin Trilogy' where he had increasingly relied on input from his
collaborators.
Among those collaborators, Robert Fripp returned with the distinctive guitar
sound he had earlier lent to "Heroes". Bruce Springsteen's pianist Roy
Bittan was back for his first Bowie album since Station to Station (1976),
while Pete Townshend guests on the bittersweet love song "Because You’re
Young".
Tracks: 1 Scream Like a Baby...2
Because You're Young...3 Kingdom Come...4 Up the Hill Backwards...5 It's no
Game...
6 Is There Life After Marriage...7 Up the Hill Backwards...8 Teenage
Wildlife...9 Kingdom Come...10 Scary Monsters..
Iggy Pop:
Soldier Demos
(Rockefield
Studios, Wales)
(August 27, 1979) -
If ever there was a soldier of shock
Rock, then Iggy would have to be considered its #1 commander. The Motor
City Stooge really packs a punch with these rare European demos. On the
heels of Iggy's short association with David Bowie, the starman's influence
is evident on several tracks.
1. I Need More, 2. I Need More (inst.), 3. I
Snub You, 4. Loco Mosquito #1, 5. Loco Mosquito #2, 6. I'm A Conservative
(inst.), 7. I'm A Conservative, 8. Knockin' Em Down #1, 9. Knockin' Em Down
#2, 10. Get Up And Go Out (inst.), 11. Ambition (inst.),
12. Instrumental #1, 13. Instrumental #2, 14. Take Care Of Me (inst.), 15.
Instrumental #3...Sound quality 8 of 10.
