Between a Rock and a Hard Place (Criteria
Studios 82) -
Aero Review:
It simply rocks and flows from tune to tune with a great vibe. It's
totally overlooked because it lacks Perry/Whitford but it's
definitely a great listen. These are some rough outtakes that
surfaced on a boot recording in the 80's. The absence of Tyler
during the some of the period is reflected by the number of tracks
which are instrumental versions. A few have Tyler ad-libbing vocals.
Gut Bucket Blues (instrumental) and Take It Or Leave It #13
eventually became Bolivian Ragamuffin.
A version of Riff and Roll turned up years later at The Power
Station, NYC in Sept. 81. Jailbait, Cry Me A River and Lightning
Strikes are also primitive versions of the final songs.
Tracks: 1. Take It Or Leave It #13, 2. Bitches Brew
(alternate version), 3. Gut Bucket Blues, 4. Riff And Roll,
5. The Jig Is Up, 6. Jailbait, 7. Lightning Strikes,

"Shake like a
Rattle Snake" - One of the earliest "Get
Your Wings" era boots featuring
the band performing at the University of Maine on September 30,
1973. It's an audience recording but none the less, it's pretty
good. "Son of Shit" and
"Rattle Snake Shake" rarely played on stage ROCK!
Up until the time (if ever)
that
"See
Me,
Hear
Me"
(Audience Masters)
can redefine the overall sound, this is the best
capture Aerosmith fans can hope for.
Tracks: 1. Write Me, 2. Unknown Blues, 3. Somebody, 4. Son of Shit (aka

Fillmore East (February
1970) -
Review: Not to be confused with At The
Fillmore East (1971) this is a document of the February 1970
Fillmore shows when the Grateful Dead and the Allman Brothers Band
joined forces for three nights of epic performances at the Fillmore
East in New York City.
Aptly titled Fillmore East, February 1970, the disk opens with a
scorching rendition of In Memory of
Elizabeth Reed that simply grooves. Dickey and Duane are
magnificent, as they play with reckless abandon, yet tightly in
synch. The highlight of this album, however, is the nearly 31-minute
Mountain Jam that drips with an colorfully electrified intensity.
The Allman Brothers Band takes the Donovan-penned song and mutates
it into its own magical panorama of sound. The dual guitars of Betts
and Allman dodge and weave through Berry Oakley's bass line, leading
the ensemble to the outer reaches of the tune and beyond as its
traverses through a Miles Davis-style
jam á la Bitches Brew. ”
With Or Without You

Derek Trucks
Live at The Center for the
Arts (University at Buffalo, NY.
2004) (2CD) - A real
showcase of talent. Derek Trucks
grew up in a rich musical heritage surrounded by the likes of the
Allman Bros, Wet Willie and countless blues men of the
day. It's pretty apparent from the first note you hear to the
last chord strummed how diverse he became. Jazz, Blues, Gospel, and
a little Rock all sound great when it's done right. Tracks:
Disk 1: 01. Hey Driver...What City?,
02. Crow Jane, 03. I Wish I Knew, 04. Cheese Cake, 05. Going Down

1,000th Show
(4-16-04) The Warfield,

An incredible show featuring the
brilliant
Warren Haynes of the Allman Brothers Band and leader of his own
spectacular band Gov't Mule.
Fasten your seat belts and hang on to your guitar strap - this is a
wild ride! Several guests appear to make this set that much more
special. (Phil Lesh,
Bob Weir, Jeff Chementi, Bill Kreutzman and Mickey Hart) 37 tracks
in all from a quality soundboard recording.
What Stage? -

Apple Demos 1970-1972 -
These 13 tracks represent the best
and cleanest versions of the original
"Straight Up" album. Comment
from a fan: I've been searching out Badfinger boots
for twenty years and I've heard them all but fellow collectors are
encouraged to seek this beauty out. This one is the one you need!
Amazing sound.
Bad Finger -
The ultimate retrospective of Bad
Finger. Very nice in-depth look at the highs and lows of
Rocks most unlucky group. Many classic performances (The Ivey's and
Bad Finger) and narration from Joey and Mike. Disk includes the
earliest known footage of the original group. A real winner and one
any Bad Finger fan will cherish!
Better Days (2CD) -
Another in depth outtake title with
plenty of Badfinger punch! Disk 1: Incredible outtakes, demos, rough
mixes and unreleased gems from the albums Ass,
Straight
Up, Airwaves and
GoodFinger sessions. Disk 2 is a
mixture of BBC Radio tracks and 2 live concert songs; Day After Day
and No Matter What. WOW!
Bus Tapes
(1972
Jamming on Tour Buses)
- This is a very unusual collection of songs as performed by
Badfinger; caught on tape while traveling in their tour bus. The
origination and publisher is unknown but what a legacy he or she
left behind. You get the feel, as you listen to this disk that you
are on the tour bus with the boys. The engine noise is intermixed in
the performance but the songs are still distinguishable. This
recording is NOT studio quality but HEY! We're on tour bus! A very
unique behind the scenes audio journey!
Head First
(Warner Bros &
Apple Mixes) - Tracks
1-10: Apple Mix (late 1974, Rough
Mix)
Tracks 11-20: Warner Bros.
(Mid to early 1975, Multi Track) Tracks are presented in their
original context and order.
However, none of these recordings have bass present. Overall,
a brilliant set. This was an appealing lp when released in the mid
70's. Soon after the albums debut, the band would be no more. Read
their story...More>>
Kickin' Ass
- Comment from a fan:
This is a sensational
release! Badfinger was better in the studio than live but this is
still a fascinating look into the band's live sound, which is more
aggressive than their studio work. Great soundboard with a tad of
hiss. The bonus acetate tracks are simply gorgeous. A must for
Badfinger fans.

Real Perfect
(5CD) - The
Ultimate Box Set
of the legendary Badfinger!
Review: Look no more,
this is it! Over 90 incredible tracks; The
Ivey's demo recordings (1969), Newly Re-mastered Apple demos 1970-1972, The Alternate "Ass"
D.A.T 1973 Masters, "Ass" demo
recordings, Mike Gibbon's rough mixes for his Welsh recordings,
"Ass" backing tracks, Live 1972 BBC tracks and 1979's "Midnight
Special" performance. This box was released in Japan only (mid 90's)
and is forever out of print. Though this set won't replace the
various outtakes that are available - it's an
essential title to get!
Take It All -
20 Track monster of various BadFinger
and solo member demos. Just look at this impressive track list:
Tracks 1-4 are the last Tom
Evan's demos; tracks 5-7
Badfinger demos; tracks 8, 9
alternate Pete Ham versions; track 10
Tom Evan's demo; tracks 11-13
are Dodgers BBC songs; tracks 14-15
are some incredible Joey remakes; track 16
original acetate of Come And Get It;
track 17 is a Goodfinger demo;
tracks 18-19 Ivey's
demos; track 20 is a Mike solo
cut from 1995; tracks 21-22
are Pete's demos. Outstanding and well worth a listen.
Come And Get It!!

Crossing The Great Divide
(3CD) -
Review:
Disk 1:
What a Party,
includes 24 Tracks. The first three, "What A Party", "Farther Up The
Road", and "She's Nineteen" are all high quality Levon & The Hawks
studio cuts. Levon on vocals. The first is a teen beat confection
with a female chorus, but the next two are very bluesy R&B with a
lot of Robbie guitar work. "You Don't Know Me" comes from a live
Texas tape with Richard doing his Ray Charles; fair quality but
great vocals. "Leave Me Alone" is a quasi-Bo Diddly thing with Levon
and Richard having some fun, a single recorded as the Canadian
Squires. "He Don't Love You" and "The Stones I Throw" were a
Hawks single from 1965.
"Number One" is an instrumental recorded with Dylan, generally a
groove waiting for lyrics with lots of Garth on organ. "Baby Let Me
Follow You Down" is from the Guitars Kissing Dylan boot, the
infamous Royal Albert Hall release.
The remaining 13 cuts are all Basement Tapes cuts; "Yazoo Street
Scandal", "Orange Juice Blues" with and without vocals, two versions
of "Beautiful Thing", and two versions of "You Say You Love Me."
These all sound like the latest release of the Basement Tapes, very
clean, in some cases startlingly so. In fact, When the quality is
poor, other considerations make the choices obvious, as in Richard's
vocals on "You Don't Know Me." The various early singles sound
great, the best versions I've heard.
Disk 2:
The Crackers "Time To Kill"
- starts with three Basement Tapes tunes: "Katie's Been Gone", other
versions of both "Ruben Remus" and "Yazoo Scandal". The next two are
classics: the famous studio versions of "Get Up Jake" and "Don't Do
It." Great quality.
Next are two Woodstock performances: "Don't Ya Tell Henry" and
Richard on "Tears of Rage." Good quality, etc. "Highway 61" is with
Dylan at Isle of Wight. The next 8 tracks are Rock of Ages outtakes.
The disc ends with "I Shall Be Released". Some of the Dylan
performances from one of the evenings have surfaced, and the quality
is similiar to those. Somewhat rawer than the Rock of Ages album
stuff. Most interesting is the version of "Smoke Signal", a rather
overlooked cut from Cahoots that rips here. Also, a great version of
"Rockin' Chair."
Disk 3: The Band "Share
Your Love" - begins with two Rock
of Ages outtakes: "Caledonia Mission" and "Loving You (Is Sweeter
Than Ever)". Next is Richard doing "Share Your Love" from Roosevelt
Stadium. Poor quality but Richard's voice haunts. Two Planet Waves outtakes: two instrumentals, one unnamed and
"Crosswind Jamboree". Three cuts follow from the Madison Square
Garden stop on the '74 Dylan tour: "King Harvest", "Rag Mama Rag"
and "Wheel's on Fire." This was a heavily booted tour and the
quality here is typical. The original Band material ends with "It
Makes No Difference" and "Don't Do It" from the recent Last Waltz
collection.
"Long Black Veil" from the '83 comeback and a 1988 "The Weight" with
Dylan ends the live material. Four demos from Jericho end the disc.
Despite my qualms, I recommend the collection to any Band fan. It
ain't perfect, far from it, but the early stuff is enlightening,
"Jake/Don't Do It" is crucial, and the Rock of Ages material is
wonderful.
The Complete Last Waltz
(4CD) -
The Complete Last Waltz restores all of the omitted
tracks and is sequenced exactly as the concert was performed. This 4
disk set is for those who aren't satisfied with a chopped version of
The Band's last show. The recording is solid. It's a pre-remix
soundboard, so even the released tracks have a slightly different
flavor to them. A large dose of worthwhile unreleased material makes
it well worth it to those with more than a passing appreciation for
The Band. The complete soundboard was used for this
Thanksgiving Day farewell show. San Francisco's Winterland.

On the "Amorica" World Tour, The Black Crowes played some “secret

latest album which was unreleased at the time. Ozzy's
introduction of 'Black Sabbath'
as the title track of their first album really brings the crowd to
their feet. Overall, this 38 year audience recording is the best to
be found of their historic Fillmore
gig. Good stuff!
1 - Paranoid, 2 - N.I.B., 3 - War Pigs, 4 - Black Sabbath, 5 - Iron
Man, 6 - Behind the Wall of Sleep,
7 - Hand of Doom-Rat Salad, 8 - Fairies Wear Boots, 9 - Wicked

Paris 1970
(Rock the
Seventies) -
This dvd rocks!
Close and personal with the
boys from Birmingham, UK.
Pro-shot footage of a energetic Sabbath while they tear up the stage
in Paris, France. Unlike Arena concerts, this performance is in a
townhall setting that gives fans the vibe of a personal one on one
concert. Also, disk contains several "Never Say Never" performances.
See Ozzy, Tony, Geezer and Bill give their all. Excellent Choice!
Sabbath's "Born
Again" Unmixed Demos
- An interesting and relevant rocker from half of the quartet that
brought doom rock
to the masses. Tony, Geezer along with Bev Bevan (ELO, The Move) and
Ian Gillian (Deep Purple, Gillian) lay down some
unforgettable numbers in the studio. They may be demos but for some
(me included) that's where the best music's discovered!
Tracks:
Digital Bitch, Hot Line, Keep it Warm, Stonehenge, Fallen, Trashed,
Zero the Hero, Born Again, Disturbing the Priest..
Sabbath ROCKS Worchester (April
11, 1983) - The best quality recording from the
Born Again
tour to recently surface. The band consists of Tony Iommi, Geezer
Butler, Ian Gillian and Bev Bevan. A rockin concert
that
never misses a beat. Don't miss out, not many shows were captured
from this era of Sabbath.
Tracks: Children of the Grave, Hot Line, War Pigs. Iron Man, Zero
the Hero, Heaven and Hell, Guitar solo, Digital Bitch,
Black Sabbath, Paranoid and Smoke on the Water..

- Review:
This is one of the handful of soundboard recordings from the 1970's
of Sabbath in concert. Unfortunately, it's incomplete but it's
definitely worth having namely for the excellent sound quality and
because it was the last known live recording of Sabbath with Ozzy.
Also, it includes the last known live recording of the rarely played
"Shock Waves" (the only soundboard recording of this song).
Tracks:
01 - Symptom of the Universe [Cut
In], 02 - Snowblind, 03 - War Pigs, 04 - Never Say Die, 05 - Black
Sabbath,
06 - Shock Waves,
07 - Dirty Women, 08 - Rock'n'Roll Doctor..

Review: No doubt,
461 Ocean Blvd
was the album that Clapton needed
to release to help find himself and begin living again. After
falling prey to drugs and living in the fast lane for so many years
it finally took its toll. I believe if this version of the lp was
released instead of the commercial press - it would have been a
bitter sweet victory. Clapton plays some amazing Dobro and blues
licks that would make Robert Johnson smile with praise. If you want
to hear all the incredible jams, demos and rehearsals that took
place Before 461 was released -
You've got to hear these!
Disk 1: 01. I Shot The Sheriff
(very early), 02 Meet Me At The Bottom Jam 1, 03 Meet Me At The
Bottom Jam 2, 04 Meet Me At The Bottom Jam 3, 05 Chocolate,
06 It's
Hard To Find, 07 Ill See You Again, 08 Evil, 09 Snake Lake Blues..
Disk 2: 01 Jam, 02 Jam 2, 03
It's Never Too Late Rehearsals, 04 Friday Night Jam..
Complete Miami
Rehearsals
(4CD) - A
4 disk set of tracks recorded by Eric
and band during the Summer of 1975 in Miami, Florida.
Some songs would eventually make it on record for Eric's smash album
"461 Ocean Blvd."
This is a great insider's view of audio history with 1st
takes of: Motherless Children,
Why Does Love Got To Be So Bad,
Bell Bottom Blues, Knockin on Heaven's Door, Eye
Sight To The Blind and Teach Me To Be Your Woman. Over 50
tracks!

Fillmore Double
Night - (Disk
1 only)
Quality soundboard recording
of Derek / Dominoes live at the Fillmore East, NY. Tracks are from
the Early and Late shows (23, 24 Oct 1970) and contain some of
Eric's best guitar work ever. Killer renditions of "Got To
Get Better In A Little While", "Key To The Highway",
"Why Does Love Got To Be So Sad"?, "Presence Of The Lord",
"Let It Rain" and many more! Over 21 songs.
Gems (Journeyman,
Lethal Weapon 2 Sessions)
-
Alternate tracks, demos from sessions
recorded at the Power Station New York City, 1989-1991. It was
during this time that Eric found his way into soundtrack recordings.
He's always
been a mainstay for those who love rock and blues but during the
late 80's, 90's Hollywood producers found him. The "Color of Money"
starring Tom Cruise, Paul Newman finally legitimized him to the
world.
Tracks: 1) Pretending,
2) Running On Faith, 3) Don't Turn Your Back, 4) Forever, 5) Hard
Times, 6) Lead Me On, 7) No Alibis,
8) Breaking Point (instrumental), 9) Something About You, 10)
Murdoch's Men (instrumental),
11) Higher Power (instrumental),
12) Bad Love (additional overdubbed

- Polydor records may have released Eric's 1st lp after they put
their stamp of approval on it but the original mix
does exist. Comment from a fan: Man oh
man, the tracks really jump on this release. Bonny and Delaney did a
fantastic job. A real labour of love! I can see why Clapton placed
his faith in them. If you need to jump start your Clapton
collection, this disk is like listening to a completely new and
fresh "Slowhand".

Hyde
and Seek
-
One of the best sound-board / outtake studio recordings by the short
lived mega-band Blind Faith.
No one really knows why they disbanded so quickly. Rumor has it that
Clapton wanted more than just a Jam Band. He wanted to make serious
music that would last as a testament to the blues greats he
idolized. Years later, his tribute to Robert Johnson would finally
appear. Tracks 1, 6-12 recorded at Morgan Studios,
London, February - June 1969. Tracks 2-5 recorded at Hyde
Park, London on June 7, 1969. Tracks 13-14 recorded at Morgan
Studios, London, October 1969.

Review:
Of all the groundbreaking
artists/groups
that have come and gone since the magical 60's - the defining
criteria of how great they
were is measured by longevity and influence. Sure, musical tastes
change but good is still good. Cream
was and is still good. I was very fortunate to have found
this set and promised to write a review of it once I had time to
digest its content. Sound quality is excellent. The combination of
"Disraeli Gears" performed
live in various venues and the addition of the BBC
material is just icing on the cake.
Jack, Ginger and Eric are way ahead of the curve on this amazing
set. I'm sure all Rock-N-Rollers will love it!

Comment from a fan:
A true gem. It's hard to tell that
this soundboard is almost 40
years old. It's amazing how clear every track is. It's not perfect
but it's got to be one of Cream's
best live performances. "Live Cream"
was good but this is much much better. Tracks:
1) White Room, 2) Politician, 3) Crossroads, 4) Sunshine of Your

Clapton's playing is top notch along with Ginger's and Jack's. The
sound quality overall is a big thumbs up!
Tracks: Disk 1:

The
Alternative Album - Review:
It seems unfair that a 3 piece band
could be so full sounding but when you
have the makings of a super group then it's no wonder. I really like
this disk. It has clarity and some very interesting
tunes.
Check these out: 1.

Elvis
Costello:
One of many "new wave"
artists to emerge in the early 1980's and successfully pave his way
to the present day. Elvis has survived musically based on his ever
evolving songwriting skills and performing style. Not surprisingly,
he is still making the rounds and enjoying the label of a
true pioneer. Whether performing at a charity cause or penning tunes
with former Beatles - Elvis will be with us for a long time to
come. Enjoy these titles of Costello magic.

to a man who gave so much. An estimated 600,000 fans gathered at

(In
The Studio 1969)
(2CD) - The story of
how this
disk came to be; on February 25, 1969
the Doors and their entourage went out to a local restaurant called
The Blue Boar, where they wined and dined for several hours.
The talk around the table was focused on new songs they had in the
works Afterwards, they returned to Sunset Sound Studios in
Hollywood, CA. and began laying down tracks and jamming. Jim sang a
variety of tunes including his own improvisations and Elvis's "Love
Me Tender" among others. The Doors played a wide range of musical
styles that evening consisting of R & B, Blues and Rock. The final
outcome was a mixture Rock that many Doors fans will be blown away
with.

Stockholm

(2CD)
-
September 20, 1968 (Friday)
Konserthuset Stockholm, Sweden. The Door's 1968 Stockholm shows,
originally broadcast on Stockholm's Radiothuset radio station. The
first disk contains the complete early show recording. Please
note: Jim's mic cuts out during "When
The Music's Over" due to equipment problems. His vocals are
buried for most of the song. This title is considered the best
source for the famed Stockholm concert. The second disk contains the
complete late show recording.
Disk 1: (Early
show), Five To One, Love Street, Love Me Two Times, When
The Music's Over, A Little Game,
The Hill Dwellers, Light My Fire, Unknown Soldier..
Disk 2: (Evening
show), Five To One, Mack The Knife / Alabama Song, Backdoor
Man, You're Lost, Little Girl,
Love Me Two Times, When The Music's Over, Wild Child, Money, Wake
Up, Light My Fire, Jim Talking, Tuning, The End..
Studio Outtakes
(upgraded)
- Nice
assortment of 17 upgraded tracks from the original 21 track disk
released in the early 90's. Surprisingly upbeat considering Jim was on the
verge of a crash and burn collision course.
Contains the Jazzy version of "The Spy", Studio Jam With Lonnie Mack
and Trk #16, a medley of The End-Go Insane-The Celebration Of The Lizard Studio (Take 2) & Wild Child.
The Complete
Matrix Club
Tapes
(4CD) - This set is The
Doors collection to cherish. Before the fame and all the hype
associated with Jim Morrison, (Kiss
The Stone)
acquired the master tapes of The Doors performing at a small club
in San Francisco, CA. (March 1967). A historical point:
This recording is of The Doors performing 2
months after their debut LP was released and months before
Light My Fire was a hit. This is
a true accounting of how The Doors would effect Rock music
forever.
Outstanding and a pleasure to
hear!

Elvis:
American
Sound
(Purple Chick)
(10CD) -
Review:
Fresh from his Comeback
Special, this is Elvis Presley at his peak. A new producer, strong
material and one of the best session bands in the country
reinvigorated the King. This is unarguably his most consistent
post-army work. Outtakes and session recordings have appeared on
many boots before but these tracks have always been somewhat
randomly selected and sequenced. For the first time, Purple Chick
has gathered together every available piece and compiled a
chronological 10CD set. Some versions have never appeared before
while many others may be unfamiliar.

Comment from
a fan: Elvis may have been the King of Rock n Roll
but I believe he could have been a successful comedian if he tried.
These 2 disks catch the King talking and giving his opinions on a
varied number of topics along with just being plain silly. I
thoroughly enjoyed listening to these disks as it shows Elvis's
other side. If you get a chance to pick these up - do so, you'll be
glad you did.

fan of alternate takes and outro numbers and this is by far one of
his best. Tracks: Stay Away,

The Complete
1972 On Tour Sessions (3CD) -
All the magic, mayhem and terrific
tunes from Elvis's 1972 U.S. tour. All tracks recorded March-April
1972. Elvis was definitely in a very relaxed mood thru-out as some
of the best tracks feature improvised lyrics and his great sense of
humor. If you want to hear the real Elvis, don't miss these.

Review:
Again, from Bilko, we get another essential two disc set, containing
even more superb quality studio outtakes from 1956 to 1969. Volume
3, Elvis was at his consummate best at his Nashville sessions in the
early 1960's. He worked on lending his voice to many different
styles during his tour of duty in Europe, and the sheer focus he
brought to the songs he recorded when he returned to civilian life
is stunning.
The highlights of the first disc are, undeniably, the outtakes from
the June, 1961 singles session which produced "Little Sister" and
"(Marie's The Name of) His Latest Flame", along with another taste
of Elvis ripping up "Lawdy Miss Clawdy" in New York on February 3,
1956 (!). The Nashville date in June was guitar god Hank Garland's
last work with Elvis before a car accident sidelined his career --
his titanic and downright nasty solo runs throughout "Little Sister"
are just "work outs" in the versions we get here, and they're still
great! I wish Elvis had chosen this style of the song when he did it
on tour in the seventies, it's perfect. As is this entire set.

Quality soundboard from The

I've always loved the way The Faces were able to capture the vibe of
artists like Chuck Berry, Duane Eddy and Gene Vincent and create
their own distinctive sound. This is a top notch SNB recording I
hope others get a chance to hear. *Artwork claims California 76 but
it's from Detroit 1974.

Nashville Rumours
(2CD)
- Recorded live at the Nashville Municipal Auditorium,
May 21, 1977.
Originally a U.K. blues based band led by the enigmatic Peter Green,
this latter period "Mac" shows why the lp Rumours
soared to such fantastic heights. The 70's bands have come and gone
but for those who lived it, the music still remains and for those
who missed this amazing period of time - well, here's a gem of a
discovery!
Rumours Are Rampant
(Rumours outtakes)
- Long before the Mac sold 20 Million copies of Rumours, the tape
machines were already rolling. See how the actual tracks sounded
before its 1977 release. Oh Daddy, Silver Spring, Gold Dust Woman
#1, Gold Dust Woman #2, Go Your Own Way, Think About It, Don't Stop,
I Don't Want To Know, The Chain (Instr),You Make Lovin Fun,

Comment from a
fan:
No one can
ever claim that this title is over-produced. Bare bones to say the
least but if you collect outtakes - this is exactly what you
want. "Sara"
is definitely the
standout
here. Tracks: Say You Love Me,
The Chain, Dreams, Rhiannon, The Ledge, Save Me A Place, Oh Daddy,
You Make Lovin’ Fun, Over and Over, That’s All For Everyone, Brown
Eyes, Think About Me, Honey Hi, Sara, Go Your Own Way, Angel, Tusk,
Sisters of The Moon (piano demo), Stephanie (from
Buckingham-Nicks).

Excellent demo/Rehearsal disk of
tunes later to be featured on the 1977 mega album
Rumours.
Comment from a fan: I just finished listening to this and not
surprisingly it brought back so many fond memories of my Junior/High
School years. They were golden times and Fleetwood Mac for that
brief shinning moment epitomized all the fun and excitement I had
back then. They years have passed but my memories remain. Thanks so
much for having this!
Tracks: 1. Station Man, 2. Spare Me A

Buckingham, Nicks
Coffee House Demos
(Live
tracks + Leftovers)
1970-1974
-
These are the STEREO versions
recorded on Lindsey's Ampex 4 track recorder. After Fritz disbanded
in 1972, Nicks and Buckingham continued to write and record as a
duo, producing demo tapes at Buckingham's father's Morris' Coffee
Plant. By this time, the two had become romantically involved as
well. They secured a deal with Polydor Records, which was attracted
by their melodic, California pop harmonies, and photogenic quality.
The debut album Buckingham Nicks caught the attention of drummer
Mick Fleetwood. He heard the album playing while
visiting a recording studio in Sausalito, California. The band was
looking for a new guitar player, following the departure of Bob
Welch who left to pursue a solo career, leaving Fleetwood Mac as a
trio with only one songwriter, keyboardist/vocalist Christine McVie.
Initially, Fleetwood was interested only in Buckingham, but
Buckingham stated that he would only join if Nicks was also invited
into the group, stating that he and Nicks were a "package
deal". The band members agreed, and Fleetwood asked the
duo to join Fleetwood Mac on December 31, 1974.
Tracks: 1. Without You, 2. Candle bright, 3. That's Alright,
4. Garbo, 5. Sorcerer, 6. Cathouse Blues,
7. Goldfish and the Ladybug..
Live in
Tuscaloosa Alabama: 8. Lola (My Love), 9. Races Are Run, 10.

Vinyl collectors have dished out huge sums of cash to acquire the
original gatefold Polydor lp but demands have exceeded
the supply for years. This disk comprises the lp plus Lindsey's
forgotten solo tracks from a long since deleted 1970's session.
Also includes the duo performing backup vocals on 2 Walter Egan
tracks; Magnet and Steel & Just the Waiting.

Outtakes
-
One of the early stages of Genesis
without leader; Peter Gabriel. During this time, fans of the group
thought that without Peter the band would ultimately fail. Critics
panned the band for lack of showmanship and
mediocre live shows. If one blow wasn't enough, guitarist Steve
Hackett left shortly after to pursue a solo career.
Well, to make a long story short - the band stuck to their guns and
became one of the biggest concert draws of the mid to late 80's
enjoying success beyond anyone's expectations. Listen for yourself
and you'll see why this group is still around today.
Recorded at Trident Studios, England October, 1975..Members:
Tony Banks, Phil Collins, Steve Hackett, Mike Rutherford.

Rare uncirculated recording from the
mixing tape master of the "Buddy Holly Week"
concert at the Hammersmith Odeon, London UK on September 14,
1979. A rare occasion indeed! Not only did it feature The
Crickets, Don Everly and Albert Lee paying homage
to Buddy but it also featured Paul & Wings
on stage. Received from an MPL insider - this is one concert you
can't miss! It's So Easy - Paul and Linda McCartney & The

What You Been a Missin
(4CD)
- An excellent release by Vigotone and one that'll keep you
Rockin to the Bop!
Here's some info from Vigotone
on this dynamic set: This set
is about the unreleased music of Buddy Holly.
Since Buddy's death, there have been a number of LP's released of
previously unavailable material. Almost all of the songs were
overdubbed in a mostly heavy handed way.
The
aim of this set is to do just that: present as much unreleased and
alternate Buddy Holly music as we could find in its original form
and from the best available sources.
We have done all possible to eliminate flaws where possible without
harming the fidelity of the music. The music has been sequenced
chronologically in order to illustrate Holly's growth as a performer
and songwriter.
Documented from 13 years old to his last recordings from his New
York apartment a few weeks before his death. We hope you enjoy it as
much as we enjoyed putting it together for you.

Blow All My Blues Away
(4CD)
-
Review: This
set of archival recordings lets us witness the formation of arguably
the most powerful and expressive voice in rock history. From the
earliest known performances in the small bars of Texas to the first
sessions with Big Brother to her mesmerizing live shows, Janis never
left behind her raw roots. She drew upon them to impel emotional
performances as if by exposing her pain she gained power over her
past and transformed it into a gift. In these newly sourced pearls,
we can hear as never before the birth and fast burning flame of
Janis Joplin.
Included are outtakes and unreleased songs from the 1968 "Cheap
Thrills" studio sessions, demos for the 1969 Kozmic Blues album and
vast improvements on all existing vintage (1962-65) live recordings.
The vintage recordings, in particular, are wonderful and although we
had some of this material from the long out of print "Janis" movie
soundtrack vinyl release, this collection has 39 (!) tracks recorded
between 1962-65 including the "Typewriter Tapes" made by Jorma. The
final CD finally unchains the urgent expression and lets it be heard
in a complete Big Brother concert from 1967.
Includes: The Typewriter Tape
- A very obscure tape that was recorded at Jorma Kaukonen's house on
June 25th 1964.
Jorma was at the time the lead guitarist for the
Jefferson Airplane and later of
Hot Tuna. Very fun listen as Janis
belts out the
blues that only she could deliver. Great down-home blues
accompaniment by Jorma. Jorma's wife is heard in the background
using the typewriter to record the lyrics (hence the titles name).
1. Trouble In Mind, 2. Long Black Train,
3. Kansas City Blues (false start), 4. Kansas City Blues, 5.
Hesitation Blues, 6. (strumming)
7. Nobody Knows You When You're Down & Out, 8. Daddy, Daddy, Daddy.

Comment
from a fan:
This is worth having,
especially for Dave fans (the interviewing is exclusively of Dave,
and the general focus of the material seems to lean towards
spotlighting Dave). The rarer tracks add to the value of the live
material. Overall, sound quality is highly acceptable considering
the age of the material.

1973 Demo's (Debut
“KISS" Lp notes)
- Produced by Eddie Kramer, engineered by Dave Wittman.
The original KISS demos were recorded
in Studio B at Electric Lady Studios and completed by March 13,
1973, according to studio reel documentation. Since the band was by
that time only 2 months old, the recording is all the more
impressive considering it was long thought that the demo session had
taken place much earlier after a long period of rehearsal and
practice to get the band fully syncopated. Per Eddie Kramer, "we’re
going to do it the old fashioned way, we’re going to do it 4-track,
and go 4 to 2 to 4.’ And that’s what we did, and those demos are
amazing. I still have a copy of them and they sound great”.
Tracks: 01. Deuce, 02. Cold
Gin, 03. Strutter, 04. Watchin' You, 05. Black Diamond..

Next Stop COBO Hall
- Review:
A great early Kiss concert recorded before they hit the big time.
The sound quality for the first 45 seconds is not very clear. After
that it's solid. Back in the early 70s, doing well the first time
you played Detroit was like doing well at the Apollo Theater in NYC
- you know the band had to be under some pressure to make a good
showing - and they pulled it off.
Instead of the siren we're used to hearing ("Kiss Alive") at the end
of "Firehouse, " you hear Peter Criss banging on a cowbell and Ace
Frehley flipping the pickup selection toggle switch on his Les Paul.
Now that's classic Rock n Roll nostalgia!
Tracks: 1. Deuce, 2. Strutter,
3. She, 4. Firehouse, 5. Nothing To Lose, 6. Cold Gin, 7. 100,000
Years,

One of the most enduring
"Southern Bands" of all time. Little Feat has gone through some
personnel changes since
their inception (1969) but still continues today to add an intense,
free flowing vibe when it comes time to deliver the goods.
The 1975 Wembley title is an earlier piece with Lowell George
leading the charge along with all the great music
that put Little Feat on the map.
If you've followed this incredible band thru the years, I believe
you'll still be in awe of what these titles offer.
Or, if you're new to their music - I believe you're in store for

rock'in the great North East.
An exciting new series by "See Me"
has just been released featuring lost concerts
of some of the greatest groups
of all time. These recordings are so good, they rival soundboards!
Impossible you say? You ain't heard noth'in yet.
Tracks:
01 Workin' For MCA, 02 I Ain't The
One, 03 Saturday Night Special (spliced), 04 Searching, 05 Travellin'
Man,
06 Gimme Three Steps, 07 Call Me The Breeze, 08 T For Texas, 09
Sweet Home Alabama, 10 Freebird (spliced)..
*Opening act for Jeff Beck and the Jan Hammer Group.
Joni
Mitchell:
Joni,
Live at the Newport Folk Festival
1969 -
Very rare sound board recording of
Joni performing at the famed
Newport Folk Festival during her 1969 evening set. Crowd
response is enthusiastic - Joni is clearly enjoying herself.
Tracks 1 thru 8 are from the concert.
Tracks #9 is from a different source
and is from an audience recording. Though not as
striking as the first eight but still a great capture. Tracks:
01 Chelsea Morning, 02 Cactus Tree, 03 Night In The City, 04 For
Free, 05 Willy, 06 The Fiddle and the Drum, 07 Both Sides Now, 08
Get Together, 09 The Circle Game (Lesser quality)
Joni Plays the BBC -
Pretty in pink, she is! This is just a visual side note to Joni's
performance. Though she has a quiet almost meek stage appearance,
this does not distract from the absolutely flawless
performance she gives while capturing the audience. Whether
performing solo on
guitar, piano and on a "stretched fiddle" Joni serves up seven
songs from her first four albums. The audio and images are
excellent! Though a few of the songs are among her most famous early
compositions ("Chelsea Morning," "Both Sides Now," "Big Yellow
Taxi"), for the serious fans there are also some less celebrated
early cuts as Cactus Tree, My Old Man, For Free and California..
Lights Out In Georgia -
Review:
Live tracks from a undated
early Joni Mitchell gig. Restored vinyl source labeled "Lights Out
In Georgia". Incredible with nice interaction from Joni and the
audience. If you want to hear how it was in Joni's early rise
to fame - then this is one disk you've got to hear.
Bravo!

(January
10, 1968)
- Joni
Mitchell - Club 47, 1968 (no label) live at Club 47, Cambridge, MA. Jan 10, 1968.
This is a far superior pressing than "By The Banks Of
The River Charles". Contains four never released Mitchell originals
Gift Of The Magi, Ballerina Valerie, The Way It Is, Come To The
Sunshine. Excellent SBD stereo.
The Hissing
Demos
of Summer Lawns
- The Alternate mega album by
Canadian songstress Joni Mitchell.
If you enjoyed the commercial version, the demo version will astound
you. A masterpiece is an understatement.
It was during Joni's tour with Bob Dylan that Joni began writing
these tracks and performing them on the road.Practice definitely makes perfect!
Tracks:
1. Harry's House, 2. Edith And
The Kingpin, 3. In France They Kiss On Main Street, 4. Sweet Bird,
5. Shades Of Scarlett Conquering, 6. Shadows And Light, 7.
Dreamland, 8. The Boho Dance, 9. Hunter..

Van
Morrison:
Laughing in the Wind -
Comment from a
fan: This
is Volume #1 of 4 from Van Morrison's "Gets His Chance To Wail"
series. The 19 tracks on this excellent disk cover some of his most
prolific tracks. Most of the demos would end up on
Moondance, His Band-Street Choir & Tupelo
Honey.
At the beginning of "Domino" there's a little studio discussion
included as they decide to leave the flute out of the mix. Van says,
"I think that's a better key for me; gives me a chance to
'wee-ale' more."
Tracks:
Ballerina, Domino, If I Ever Need Someone, These Dreams Of You, And
It Stoned Me, Come Running, Bit By Bit, Hey Where Are You, Lorna, I
Need Your Kind Of Loving, Rock & Roll Band, Funny Face, I Shall
Sing, Laughing In The Wind, Street Theory, Foggy Mountain Top, There
There Child, It Hurts To Want It So Bad, Feedback On Highway 101..(Tracks
1-12: Studio demos, 1969 & 1970)
(Tracks 13-19: Studio 1974, 75)
Naked in the Jungle
-
This is Volume #2 of Van's
excellent "Gets His Chance To Wail" series.
Volume 2 picks up where #1 left off at with some desirable demos,
studio and Live tracks.
Tracks include: Wild Night, Brand New Day, When The Evening
Sun Goes Down, Nobody Really Knows, Caravan, The Way Young Lovers
Do, Spare Me A Little (with Jackie DeShannon), You've Got The Power,
Try For Sleep, Naked In The Jungle, And The Streets Only Knew Her
Name, Grits Ain't Groceries, Don't Change On Me, Down To Earth,
Mechanical Bliss, Real-Real Gone, Foreign Window (with Bob Dylan)..(Tracks
1-6 studio demos, 1969-1971)
(Tracks
7-16 studio recordings, 1974-1976)
(Track 17
live, late 1980's)..
The Genuine
Philosopher's Stone (3CD) -
Comment from a
fan: A deluxe 3CD set that brings together material from the
1964-75 "Van The Man"
period. The bulk of the material is studio demos and outtakes but
there are selected live tracks as well. The majority of the material
has never been booted before or even circulated in collectors
circles. This is probably the most important "unofficial" Van
Morrison release to date!"

The Inner
Mystic
(Re-mastered)
(Live at Pacific High
Studios)
(2CD)
- On September 5, 1971, Van recorded
a good amount of material live for radio broadcast before a small
studio audience at Pacific High Studios near San Francisco. Much of
this has surfaced in extracts on numerous bootlegs but this 2 disk
set offers a fuller version than is usually available from other
sources.
If you're looking for unreleased live Van Morrison, this should be
one of your first stops. The sound is very good and clear, although
it's a bit duller than the standard expected of official concert
recordings. Morrison is in fine vocal form as he runs through much
of his early catalog, including some of his most famous songs
("Tupelo Honey," "Into the Mystic," "Domino," "Blue Money"). There
are less-celebrated original compositions here, too, but most
interesting of all are the few detours into even less-charted
territory: Van covers Dylan's "Just Like a Woman" (an excellent,
passionate version) and "Hound Dog," as well as Van's own "Friday's
Child," dug up from his old Them days. ~ R. Unterberger, All Music
Guide.
Unplugged in the Studio
(Demos
1968-1971)
-
As outtake recordings go, many disks
concentrate on a certain period of the artists career. This title is
different in that it covers with some detail Van's most creative
periods and finishes with some spectacular un-issued tracks.
Tracks-Album's covered:
Astral Weeks 1968:
The Way Young Lovers Do (acoustic guitar), Ballerina (acoustic
guitar), Moondance 1969:
And It Stoned Me (acoustic guitar & harmony vocals), Caravan
(acoustic guitar & electric bass), Come Running (acoustic guitar),
These Dreams Of You (acoustic guitar & tambourine), Brand New Day
(acoustic guitar- electric bass & drums),
His Band And The Street Choir 1970:
Domino (acoustic guitar, percussion & harmony vocals), If I Ever
Needed Someone (acoustic guitar),
Tupelo Honey 1971: Wild Night
(acoustic guitar & acoustic bass), When That Evening Sun Goes Down
(acoustic guitar), Un-issued Songs 1968 - 1971:
Nobody Really Knows (acoustic guitar & acoustic bass), Bit By Bit
(acoustic guitar & acoustic bass), Hey Where Are You (acoustic
guitar, acoustic bass & flute), I Need Your Kind Of Loving (acoustic
guitar, acoustic bass & flute), Lorna (acoustic guitar), Rock And
Roll Band (acoustic guitar), Funny Face (acoustic guitar)..
Mountain:
Also,
Leslie West
Give Me More at The Fillmore East (1971) -
A fresh re-mastered soundboard of
Mountain bringing the house down as only they can.
Review:
There's always something magical when I hear Leslie West play, he's
not a Steve Vai or Malmsteen but really a players player. He has the
sweetest licks, exactly what you'd want in a guitarist. Of course,
the band wouldn't have been the same if Felix, Corky or Steve Knight
weren't there. This release is a long time coming, Bravo!
Tracks: 1. Never In My Life,
2. Theme For An Imaginary Western, 3. Guitar Solo / Roll Over
Beethoven,
4. Dreams Of Milk And Honey, 5. Silver Paper, 6. Mississippi Queen..
Leslie West - guitar, Felix Pappalardi - bass, Steve Knight - organ,
Corky Laing - drums..
Wichita Lineman
(Wichita,
Kansas 1971)
- Very few Mountain boots exist that capture the essence of what
this original trio was all about; Boogie Rock. In the era of
Spooky Tooth and Savoy Brown, Mountain seemed to gather a
large cult following but never the commercial success that the
aforementioned would garner. All in all, this disk is a tasty
delight of
Leslie, Felix, Corky and Steve Knight. (Track
#6 is a guitar jam with Leslie and Richie Blackmore of
Deep Purple fame!)
Leslie West:
Mountain of a Man -
What a disk!
Leslie may have hit the big time with
Mountain but his crowning
achievement
was laying the groundwork for what was to become Mountain's guitar
driven sound. This disk shows the Big Man's
versatile style and energy with Mountain
and with the Vagrants, his first
recognized band. Again, TenDolor
records has released
a winner with this title. 19 tracks. Some tracks sourced from vinyl.

- One of the most acclaimed groups of
the mid 80's emerges
with a fine release as caught live in 1991. Sound quality is an A+
throughout the 13 tracks on this disk. Unfortunately,
"Smells Like Teen Spirit" is
abruptly cut off before it begins. Word has it that the taper was
thinking more of the concession
stand than capturing Kurt singing this grunge classic.
Tracks: 01) intro..02) Drain You..03) Aneurysm..04) School..05) Floyd The Barber..06) Smells Like Teen Spirit (Abrupt cut

capture for the ages as Nirvana will definitely not be re-grouping.

03) Breed, 04) Lithium, 05) Come As You Are, 06) Milk It, 07) Drain

Review:
Over the course of their
decades-spanning career, the Canadian power trio Rush
emerged as one of rock's most highly regarded bands; although
typically brushed aside by critics and although rare recipients of
mainstream pop radio airplay, the group nonetheless won an
impressive and devoted fan following while their virtuoso
performance skills solidified their standing as musicians'
musicians.
In honor of Rush, we're proud to list these titles as testaments to
their legacy of great work.

Recorded at
Miami University, Oxford, Ohio,
November 11th, 1969. This is historically important, as it was this
tour that saw the first performance of the 'Bridge Over Troubled

with Art for being a movie star. By saying 'No-one cares for the
little old song writer anymore. Tracks:

Why Don't You Write Me, Silver Haired Daddy, Cuba Si - Nixon No,

Live At Tufts University
1966 - Rumored to be sourced from
a pre-production acetate of an aborted live S&G album from the 60's.
The set list is very close to that of the official "Live in New York
City 1967" CD that came out in 2002.
The sound quality is what one would expect from an acetate that has
been through a few generations of tape copying: The fidelity is a
bit muffled but quite clear. There is tape flutter evident but it
doesn't distract too much from the performances.
A period that both Paul and Art admit was their best in terms of
harmonies.

Overs (2CD)
- Various, including studio outtakes, live audience recordings,
soundboard, and others. Mastered from various sources. Includes;
Bleeker Street (Demo), Bad News Feeling (Studio Rehearsal), Blues
Run The Game (Outtake 1966). Many Many More! 55
tracks in all.

Like a fine wine, age is what makes

(Purple

- This CD contains *three* versions of Simon and Garfunkel's "Bookends"
album. Live version, Mono version and most importantly, an alternate
version.
The alternate version contains demos, alternates, outtakes, and
single mixes. Highlights include a completely unheard song (Paul's
demo of Groundhog) and two songs with completely different lyrics:
"Save The Life Of My Child"
and "At The Zoo" - all in *amazing* quality.
Comment from a fan: Absolutely fantastic! Get this
disc...NOW!
Very different sounding (mostly acoustic) and very different lyrical
takes. The mono version IS GREAT!
The Paul Simon Songbook
- The Paul
Simon Song Book is an album released in the UK in 1965
and deleted in 1979 at Simon's request. Paul had one microphone for
both his voice and his guitar, Tracks (1-14)
which is why you can hear him stamping his feet to the rhythm on
The Sound of Silence. The cover also features his at-that-time
girlfriend, Kathy Chitty.
*The disk features many bonus tracks and includes alt versions of "I
Am A Rock" and "A Church is Burning" which were not part of the 1965
release. All songs credited to Paul Simon except * Paul Kane (a
pseudonym used by Paul because of his fondness for the film Citizen
Kane). Some tracks are from a vinyl source. 28

Review:
A very unique vinyl rip of Patti Smith performing her own brand of
New York styled rock n roll at the Bottom Line. During the
mid to late 70's, critics and music fans alike flooded to the city,
especially to clubs like "The Bottom Line" and CBGB's
to experience this wave of poetic art rock. She wasn't the first but
she led the wave for a few magical years which finally culminated
with her classic Top 10 hit; Because The Night". If you get a chance
to catch the mood of the day, don't miss this one.

Comment from a
fan:
So
much has been written about this
group (good &
bad)
that many just assume they are a clone of the 60's
Velvet Underground. When I first
encountered their music, I wasn't expecting much considering what I
had heard from others who were in the know.
Man, was I in for a treat! Sure, they have a vibe reminiscent of the
Velvet's but it goes much deeper
than that.
Every song is a retreat in musical imagery. The voice blended with
the instrumentation is pure delight and every verse is dying to
climax to another height. They definitely achieve this level.
If you want to experience a touch of 60's psychedelic meshed with a
80's indie flair, you won't want to miss this group.
Many thanks to "Sonic
Mania" for his comments.

Procol Harum
Eagle Not the Dove
- This has got to be one of Robin's most famous recordings. As a
member of Procol Harum,
Trower wasn't considered a guitar slinger but as the band members
went their separate ways - he became one of the best
and most highly recognized guitar gods on the planet. This offering
from "TenDolar" showcases Robin's playing to the fullest
as a 70's solo artist and with Procol Harum. Features:
Live BBC tracks, outtakes from Harum's "Prodical Stranger" lp,
Procol at the BBC + studio sessions and a Live radio session in1971.
Get Rocked - guitar styled!
For Earth Below (Sessions
and Jams)
(2CD) -
Comment from a fan: In
this material, we get the treat of listening to the band's creative
process, as they work out ideas and experiment, doing some old
numbers from the first two albums and working out new ideas for
their third album. This is a rare opportunity to hear this newly
formed lineup having fun and letting go. Trower's guitar work is
fabulous.
All of the material here comes from his September 1974 jams and
rehearsal sessions at the old Victorian church in London. They
were recorded on a portable machine in the bands rehearsal room and
are not professional studio tracks. These numbers have a rough, jam
feel to them. This material is very special because it shows
us a view of the Trower band that few have ever seen. Included are a
few great jazz-rock fusion jams. These present a very unusual side
of Trower. Matthew Fisher even joins in and plays keyboards on
several of these tracks .
Rock Goes To College -
Robin plays some of his best known "Bridge of Sighs" tracks plus
others for a very enthusiastic London University crowd during the
height of his fame. (1980) The incomparable Jim Dewar is featured as
vocalist.
Also, included is a special bonus section featuring Robin's guitar
playing per his "Hot
Licks" video spot.

Live at Montreux

Proud and full of dynamite sound.
This show was performed a few years before Stevie and Double Trouble

best he had to offer. Breath-takingly
beautiful and full of soulful bliss. Sit back and crank it up,
you'll be blown away.

variety of subjects and pays homage to some of the Blues greats that
shaped his truly unique sound. The real bonus is the in-between

Ultra Rare Trax Vol 2
- Half of this disk is Lou Reed performing acoustic home demos
in preparation for his first solo album. A few of the songs ("Lisa
Says," "I Love You," "Wild Child," and "Ride into the Sun") make
their debut here before their 1971 release. In a sense, it's a link between the Velvet Underground
and Lou's solo career. Good, good stuff.

Ultra Rare Trax Vol 4

top notch band
Steve Hunter: guitar...Dick Wagner: guitar...Peter Walsh: bass...Ray
Colcord: keyboards and
Pentti Glan: drums (at one of the first shows on the European tour
to promote "Berlin".
At this stage of Lou's career - Lou's drug of choice was alcohol.
But he seems to have been relatively "together" for this show, and
manages to remember the words to most of the songs. (Compared to the
Glasgow show) in which he had to be propped up at the mic by the
road crew after repeatedly collapsing on stage.)
Tracks:
01: Intro/Sweet Jane, 02: How Do You Think It Feels?, 03: Caroline

05: Satellite Of Love,
06: Walk On The Wild Side, 07: Oh Jim, 08:

Early Recordings
(1964-1965) -
The foundations for what would become
The Velvet Underground were laid in late 1964. Lou Reed had
performed with a few short-lived garage bands and had worked as a
songwriter for Pickwick Records, a job Reed described as "a poor
man's Carole King". Reed met John Cale, a Welshman who had moved to
the United States to study classical music. Cale had worked with
John Cage and La Monte Young, but was also interested in rock music.
(Young's use of extended drones would be a profound influence on the
early Velvet's sound). The pair rehearsed and performed together,
and their partnership and shared interests steered the early
direction of what would become the Velvet Underground.
Tracks:
1. So Blue as performed by The Jades,
2. Leave Her For Me as performed by The Jades, *Lou with The
Primitives
7 inch single, Pickwick City PC-9001, December 1964, 3. The Ostrich
4. Sneaky Pete, 5. Cycle Annie as performed by Lou Reed, 6. You're
Driving Me Insane as performed by Lou Reed, 7. I've Got A Tiger In
My Tank as performed by The Intimates
8. Why Don't You Smile Now as performed by "The All Night Workers",
9. Wild One as performed by Terry Philips,
10. This Rose as performed by Terry Philips,

Lifehouse
and Quadrophenia Demos (2CD) -
Includes all of the songs intended
for Pete's/The Who's Lifehouse Project.
Includes a 13 minute version of Baba O'Riley which is the
longest complete demo to BE
FOUND! The story of Lifehouse is one
that goes back to the Who's - "Who's Next" album. The ambitious
Lifehouse Project was a concept
that Pete conceived but was never understood by his band mates or
other associates. Glyn John's their producer at the time suggested
that he release the tracks for "Who's Next" and scrap the
project altogether. They did and the rest is musical history. "Next"
became one of the Who's biggest sellers and remains a stellar lp.
Most tracks are from the acetate recording. The quality varies from
track to track but for the most part this is A GREAT LISTEN! All
songs written and performed by Pete.

Purple Heart's

Power Chords
(1965-1969)
(2 DVD)
- Review: AMG
Before this release, several other DVDs had compiled 1960s Who
footage, with varying degrees of success.
It's difficult however to imagine a better, more comprehensive one
than this two-DVD collection, which assembles almost four hours of
live, mimed, promo, interview, and documentary clips from various
sources.
The image and sound quality are usually as good as, or better than,
what's seen or heard on those previous compilations, and most of
clips appear in the most complete form known to exist.
There are a wealth of riches here,
from relatively common items such as their 1965 Ready Steady Go and
Richmond Jazz Festival appearances to some little-seen sequences
such as their mimed June 1966 appearance on the Swedish Popside
show; a live July 1966 London college gig, including a
not-too-audible version of "C.C. Rider"; the Monterey Pop film
outtake "Pictures of Lily"; live and interview footage from
Helsinki, Finland, in May 1967; and promotional films for Tommy,
linked by a few interview segments in which Pete Townshend explains
the songs.
There's even the U.S. promo film for "Substitute," in which they
mimed the amended lyrics (omitting the reference to a black father)
in the American 45 version. It doesn't gather every last scrap of
1960s Who footage: there's nothing from their Woodstock appearance,
and their famous violent performance of "My Generation" on The
Smothers Brothers in 1967.
It is an amazing document, and totals up to the most convincing
evidence ever assembled as to the Who's mesmerizing power as a
visual performance act.

The Genuine Scoop
(5CD) - Review
Hotwacks: Billed as home studio recordings from 1965-1975, this set
is a pretty monumental collection of Townsend's demos. A quick
glance imparts that this collection very nicely supercedes a series
of releases, both underground and sanctioned. As any Who fan knows,
Townsend's home demos make for fascinating listening - many of the
arrangements, licks, and even vocal phrasing is already present on
these rougher takes. Add to that a sort of home-made funkiness and
you have a set of recordings that stack up very well against their
more familiar later, full-band versions.
The
High Numbers Live
1964
(2CD)
(Yellow
Dog)
- Review: One of the earliest live recordings of the
band, still known then as The High Numbers. These disks are a very
rare glimpse from the period when they played primarily rhythm and
blues covers and the lack of an audience, as well as the presence of
more than one version of a couple of tunes, seems to corroborate
that this show was being recorded for promotional purposes.
Pete has leaked out this sort of stuff on the
SCOOP
collections for some time but those have always been piecemeal - one
track from here, another ten years later, instrumentals next to
unreleased songs. This collection is wonderfully focused,
chronological and in pretty strong fidelity though some digi-noise
is present. The thrill of having these cuts in one place and in a
reasonable order is indescribable. Sound quality is pretty
consistent, the material is endlessly engaging.
The Tommy Demos -
Excellent disk from "Yellow Dog " of
Pete's Tommy demos. Pete plays all the instruments
and some versions very differently than the commercial release of
the original rock opera. Comment from a fan: Words can't describe how truly great
this disk is! This is a must for all Who fans! Simply Fantastic.
Song for song, this is the best Peter Townsend solo album. His
musicianship on guitar, bass, keyboards and drums is very
impressive. A must have!

Little Games Sessions
- Excellent tracks from the
bands Little Games sessions featuring
Jimmy Page.
The direction of the group is harder edged from previous efforts
considering what Page (Led Zeppelin) would later create.
It's all here, Blues - Rock...the unmistakable sound of the fabulous
Yardbirds. (*Source is vinyl + tape) some tape drag.
New York Rehearsal Gig
- This title includes the earliest
known Zeppelin tune performed by the Yardbirds -
"Dazed and Confused". Page's plan was to continue using the
Yardbirds name after the breakup but legal hassles prevented that
idea. Solution, form a new band and tour Europe under the guise of
the YB's. The plan would come later but catch his Yardbirds trying
out a rendition of Zep's classic "Confused".
Overall sound is decent for the times it was captured.
Video Anthology -
26 video gems from one of the
most influential Invasion groups of all time. Everyone is well aware
of the fact that The Yardbird's
spawned 3 Super-Star
guitarists but the arrangements of the songs was mainly Keith Relf's
task. Keith would later form the early 1970's Spacey-Folk group
"Renaissance" with his sister.

Chrome Dreams
(Rust Edition)
-
By the end of
the summer, Zuma was finished, though still not released. Yet Neil
carried on recording his new songs. Sometimes he recorded solo and
sometimes with Crazy Horse. Many of these songs would remain unheard
by the public until quite a while later but by late ’75, Neil had
already written and recorded versions of such future classics as
Like A Hurricane, Powder-finger, Sedan Delivery, Pocahontas and Ride
By Llama.
Tracks 1 thru 12
of this compilation is the rare unreleased "Chrome
Dreams" album, readied for release
weeks before Neil recorded these country hoedowns and re-thought his
strategy. Some of these song titles will be more than familiar to
you, but the actual performances may surprise you.
Track list:
1. Pocahontas, 2. Will To Love, 3. Star of Bethlehem, 4. Like A
Hurricane, 5. Too Far Gone, 6. Hold Back The Tears,
7. Homegrown, 8. Captain Kennedy, 9. Stringman,
10. Sedan Delivery,
11. Powderfinger, 12. Look Out For My Love..

I'm Happy That Y'all Came
Down (Dorothy Chandler 1971) -
This two-record vinyl boot is
exceptional considering the technology of 1971. Neil is
talkative and his comedy on "Sugar Mountain" is hilarious.
Considered an essential show for any fan that loves Neil. Vinyl
sourced from one of the best condition
records to survive. This recording has never
emerged from a non-vinyl source. 1. On the Way Home, 2. Tell Me Why,
3. Old Man, 4. Journey Through the Past, 5. Cowgirl in the Sand, 6.
Heart of Gold, 7. A Man Needs a Maid, 8. Sugar Mountain, 9. Don't

low bias audience recording of Neil and Crazy Horse as they perform

reference to the recording and especially of the
instrument tuning needing a lot of help. Band includes the original
lineup of Crazy Horse (Whitten, Molina and Talbot)

The emotion of the passing of Danny Whitten is still present as Neil
sings with heartfelt loss.

On The Beach +
(Plus) - Review:
I heartily recommend this disk. Deeply sad and moving album. Worth
it alone for the dark and chilling "Revolution Blues". A great
collection of songs, performed with intensity matched only by
Tonight's the Night.
Tonight's The Night
Acetate (1973-74) -
Of all the legendary unreleased Neil
Young albums, no LP has received more accolades, criticism or
general discussion than "Tonight's The Night". Except for the
occasional off-hand remark in an interview with Neil or someone
close to him, virtually nothing was known about any of the "many"
unreleased versions of the album. Even the often-mention Elliott
Roberts stage play version has never been detailed.
Here it is, in all
its Glory!
Track-list:
1. Tonight's the Night, 2. Mellow My
Mind, 3. Roll Another Number, 4. Tired Eyes, 5. Speakin' Out, 6.

The Missing Herd
"Livestock"
(Vol 1) -
Live tracks between 1967-1968. First,
most live tracks are never fully realized. Either the bass is too
low or some other distraction is present. Not so with this title.
Even the mistakes add to the appeal. Neil sings on several tracks
and brings with him that special quality that only makes this
great disk even
better. High Points are the studio chatter between and during the
rehearsals. This is one for
the ages!

(The Alternate)
"If I Could Only Remember My Name" (1970) -
Crosby fans have long considered the
commercial album a masterpiece for its lyrical content and groovy
melodies but it's been overlooked for so many years.
The alternate disk is just as
powerfully genuine and contains alt, demo tracks most notably
"Wooden Ship". (Wally Heider's studio) The resurgence among
collectors/fans is a long time coming and hopefully, it'll find a
new generation of fans young and old.

The PER&RO
Sessions: Review:
A little known piece of San Francisco musical history called the
PER&RO
sessions, were a collection of tracks recorded at
Wally Heider Studios
by San Francisco alumni such as David Crosby, Jerry Garcia, Phil
Lesh, Graham Nash, Paul Kantner, Grace Slick, David Freiberg, Bill
Kreutzmann, Mickey Hart, Neil Young, Jorma Kaukonen, Joni Mitchell,
Jack Casady and so many other lesser known but outstanding
musicians.
The project entailed recordings that the musicians worked on or
would later (hopefully) finalize.
The Majority of tracks unfortunately have never been heard or released
commercially.
David Crosby's 1971
release "Name" album is one such session that features the alumni
participating in.
It's an excellent overview of the late 1960's early 70's Haight-Asbury
musical mood.
Part 1 (4CD) - Tracks:
Disk 1:
Jam, Laughing #1, Laughing #2, Jam, Song With No Words, Song With No
Words, What Are Their Names,

Crosby-Nash
Unreleased Live Album (1974
Mixing Board)
- One of the best live recordings to emerge in recent years. It's a
wonder who makes the decisions at the various studio's on what is
released and what's not? This clearly could have been one such title
that any recording exec would have been proud to have in their
catalog. Alas, that's an oversight that makes collecting these
recordings such a thrill. See why David Crosby and Graham Nash have
been collaborating for over 40 years. The magic was definitely
caught this evening.
Tracks:
1. Intro, 2. Deja Vu, 3. Lady Of The Island, 4. Prison Song, 5.
Carry me, 6. Calley's Song, 7. Sleep Song,
8. King Of The Mountain, 9. Time After Time,

Session Selections
- Review:
70 minutes of alternate takes
from the sessions that would eventually become the first LP:
It’s
like being a fly on the wall in the studio. There's some mind
blowing stuff here.
Who knew they recorded a version of “Guinnevere” with drums? Or a
version of “Lady Of The Island” with even MORE vocal tracks in the
vocal breakdown? Hearing this many genuinely interesting outtakes
from such a classic album is a real treat. These songs are the
perfect companion-pieces to the debut album for those fans who want
to dig a little deeper into the creative process of one of America's
finest groups.

Live at Fillmore East
(June 6, 1970) (3CD) -
One of the truly essential disks to
capture the early 1970's
by CSN&Y. This is not to say the commercial release is junk but
rather that the official release of "4 Way Street" is
too
well polished and refined that it makes the hazy and magical period
of the 60's and 70's seem Sooo
clean. If you need a 4 Way
fix then this historic true look into how this legendary recording
went down is what you've been waiting for.

Five Way Street
(2CD) -
Comment from a
fan: Absolutely essential for all fans of group
harmony.
If you're from the era of the 70's, singer-songwriter period - then
these 38 tracks are what you need. I never realized what a fantastic guitarist Stephen Stills is until
these disks surfaced. I believe Atlantic really screwed up by not
releasing this one. Rock On!
Studio Archives Sessions 1969 -
The discovered, often thought lost
recordings of Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young.
The majority of tracks are associated with legendary engineer Wally
Heider - though other gems on this disk are equally potent.
Here's
some examples:
1. Everybody's Talkin' (A simplistic but
enchanting tune) 2. How Have You Been (Splendid
group harmony) 3. Black Queen riff / (In
studio dialogue), 4. Triad (Acoustic
Studio Take), 5. Almost Cut My Hair (Acoustic
Take), 6. Everyday We Live - (Stephen's
unreleased song), 7. Sea Of Madness (Studio
take), 8. The Lee Shore (Stephen Stills

9. Everybody I Love You (Unedited basic track),
10. I'll Be There (Stephen's unreleased song),
11. Blackbird (Takes 1-4), 12. Ivory
Tower (Stephen's unreleased song), 13.

FreakOut
- The
ground breaker that shook the
Avante Garde chic and the hip L.A. scene the moment it was
released in 1966. The times have simmered slightly but the
message is clear, listen with an open mind and experience a
different mix of
sight
and sound(s). In 1966, The Beatles were the absolute leader of the
British Invasion with so many groups riding their sound and style.
Not so with The Mother's! If you want a taste of what the
alternative was at the time (or maybe today for that matter) -
this is a great opportunity to Freak
(it) Out.
Tracks:
Hungry Freaks, Daddy,
I Ain't Got No Heart,
Who Are The Brain Police?, Go Cry On
Somebody Else's Shoulder, Motherly Love, How
Could I Be Such A Fool, Wowie Zowie,
You Didn't Try To Call Me, Any Way The

Probably Wondering Why I'm Here,
Trouble Every Day, Help-I'm A Rock, It
Can't Happen Here, The Return Of The
Son Of Monster Magnet..
Mono and Acetates (3CD)
- The very unique Frank Zappa
and The Mothers performing
underground classics that all "Mother Lover's"
can dig. If you're ready to get your sound
buds spinning, weaving and groovin' this is your lucky day for sure.
Definitely ahead of his time, Frank pushed the limits of sound,
orchestration and the requirements of what Rock N Roll could
sound like.

We're Only In It For
The Money - From
TF:
The uncensored version of We're Only In It
for the Money was released for only a brief time in 1968.
Ironically, given MGM's disdain for the group's original name, the
censored version seems to have been issued with a sticker affixed to
the cover of the album itself (immediately over Jimmy Carl Black's
head) that simply said "THE MOTHERS".
Review:
"Original pressings included the lines "I will
love the police as they kick the shit out of me" in the song "Who
Needs the Peace Corps?"
and "And I still remember Mama with her apron and her pad /
feeding all the boys at Ed's Cafe" in the song "Let's
Make the Water Turn Black." Later pressings have both of
these lines pruned from the tapes.

Interview of the Captain
- A funny spin on words, philosophy and other esoteric thoughts by
Don van Vliet aka Captain
Beefheart in a November 1, 1980 interview in Amsterdam, Holland and
broadcast via VPRO Radio. Not much more is known of this recording but it does show how his
train of thought allowed him to associate with Frank Zappa
years prior. Good stuff.
