What makes big cities so magnificent? Is it the crowded streets and subways? Is it the mixture of big corporations and small businesses? Is it the Starbucks on every corner? Despite each characteristic’s magnanimous contribution to the splendor of a city, its true grandeur comes from its unique and often breath-taking architecture. People are in awe when they look upon skyscrapers whose stature is so much greater than their own. Many buildings are admired for their simple, yet wondrous design. Although these buildings are greatly appreciated by people worldwide, very few know the origins of their architectural design. Why are so many city buildings covered in glass? Who decided that the best architectural design was the less ornate one?  In 1919, a small school was established in Germany, whose innovative ideals spurred a worldwide movement and made a significant contribution to American Modern Architecture. This school, idea, and movement is today collectively referred to as Bauhaus.
