     Phillip Johnson (1906 - 2005)
In 1906, Phillip John son was born in Cleveland , Ohio . Even though John son is a world-renown architect he even design a building until he was 36. Before he was an architect, John son was a client, critic, author, historian, and a museum director. John son graduated from Harvard University in 1930 with a degree in philosophy. While attending Harvard, John son met Henry-Russell Hitchcock. Hitchcock and John son later worked together to present the “International Style” at the Museum of Modern Art at an exhibition in 1932. In fact, John son was direct of the museum’s architectural department from 1930 to 1936 and again from 1946 to 1954. In 1940 John son returned to Harvard to get a degree in architecture. In 1949, John son constructed one of his most famous buildings in New Canaan , Connecticut known as “Glass House.” He designed many other buildings including Pennzoil Place in Houston , the IDS Center in Minneapolis , and the New York State Theater at Lincoln Center . In 1967, he became architectural partners with John Burgee. The partnership existed for nearly twenty years. To reward his great achievements, John son won the first Pritzker Architecture Prize for lifetime achievement and also won the Gold Medal of the American Institute of Architects, which is the greatest honor an architect can achieve.  Philip John son died at the age of 98 on January 26, 2005 .
