Senior Newsletter - October, 2000From Ms. Owens, Senior SponsorSenior packets are available only until October 25, 2000. There are three choices: Packet A which includes class dues, t-shirt, senior video and Packet B which includes class dues and t-shirt and Packet C which is class dues. Full payment of the packet must be done by October 25, 2000. Only cash or money orders will be accepted. NO CHECKS! How to pay for the packets: Put the money order or cash into an envelope which has your name on it as you wish it to be on your diploma. Complete this form (or the one in the letter I sent you last summer) and put it into the envelope. Give this envelope to me before or after school in Room 303. NEW POLICY REGARDING SENIORS TAKING ENGLISH CLASSESSeniors who are taking an English class have been informed that if they do not pass their class this semester, they will not graduate in June. NASONLast week you received your Progress Reports. Congratulations to those who are passing all your courses. Do not let your grades slide. This nine weeks is over on October 23rd. However, over twenty of you failed two, three, or four of your courses. You must change your ways if you plan to graduate in June. The Columbus Exchange Club sponsors the Youth of the Month recognition (October through March) to spotlight an outstanding senior. Jeffrey R. Farless is our first month nominee. Congratulations! Jeff has selected Ms. Kersey as the teacher who has greatly encouraged him in his accomplishments. They will be recognized at the Exchange Club on Thursday, September 28th. Coca Cola Scholarship Program is extremely competitive. You must have a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA and demonstrate leadership in school, civic, and other curricular activities, academic achievement, and motivation to serve and succeed in all endeavors. Applications are in the Scholarship File in the Guidance Office. They must be completed and returned to Ms. Nason by noon on October 27th. Fox 54 WXTX T.V. will choose several students to feature each month (weeknights at 6:00 p.m.). Winners receive a plaque and goody bag. At the end of 2000, three $1000 scholarships will be awarded. To be considered, you need to excel in academics, community service, athletics, and fine arts (or ideally a combination of all). Forms are in Scholarship File Drawer in the Guidance Office. Some adult, such as a teacher or community leader, needs to give stated reasons for nomination. Return forms by noon each Friday and Mrs. Nason will list GPA and mail the completed forms. SAT TEST PREPARATION Columbus State University is offering a course in SAT test preparation at the Elizabeth Bradley Turner Center located at the corner of E. Lindsay and College Drive. The dates for this preparation are Saturdays, October 7-28 between 8:00 a.m. and 12 p.m. The cost is $149 or $135 if you register by Sept. 30. To register by phone using VISA or Mastercard, call 569-2023. You may also go by the center to register in person and pay by check or cash. |
