RULES FOR LETTERING
A Swimmer will receive a LETTER in swimming if he/she meets all of the following criteria:
1.) The swimmer must score a minimum of 20 points throughout the season at any of the meets combined. In a relay, each individual gets ¼ of the relay points. (This can be modified if we schedule fewer than 6 meets.) Points are awarded for top finishers in each event, often top 8 but sometimes as much as top 16 at large meets.
A swimmer who has been a member of the varsity team for three years will be considered for lettering regardless of points earned, as long as all other criteria described in the rules and regulations have been satisfied. The swimmer must have a good practice attendance record for those three years.
2.) A swimmer must attend 3/5 of the scheduled swim practices during the season. The YMCA high school attendance sheet will be checked daily and recorded. At least 33 days out of 55 days practice
3.) A swimmer must participate in all the regularly scheduled meets (State meet excluded). A swimmer is allowed to miss one meet without being penalized if approved by Mrs. Schmitz beforehand.
4.) Once having lettered, a swimmer will receive a “pin” for succeeding years in which he/she qualifies.
These rules have been approved by CHS Athletics.
