Col. William JOHNSON died in Independence Co. about Nov. 1831. I have
the papers from the settlement of his estate, but allegedly there was
some kind of chancery suit ca. 1840 related to the estate. Does
anyone have information about this? (The County clerk's office could
not find any reference to it.) Also, it is believed that this is the
William Johnson who married Margaret HAWKINS in Rutherford Co., NC in
1785. Does anyone know what became of her? Did she die in
Independence Co.? Was she the mother of all of his children? Thanks.

Subject: John F. Mayo
I am looking for any info on my great-grandfather John F. Mayo. The
only thing I know is that he lived in Independence County in the late
1800's, married Laura Givens, and was wounded in the Civil War and was in
Company D, 32nd Arkansas Infantry. Any ideas where to start? Any help

Researching John Marion Hicks b. Feb. 1858 and wife Margaret J. Soward b.
1856; she was dau. of Henry N. Soward and Nancy A. West of TN. Also,
J...V...Wilson b. July 1860 in Tn. and wife Josephine Campbell b. Nov. 1863 in
Ark. Josephine in 1880 census is in Ashley with widowed mother S. P.
Campbell. Can anyone help me? Thank you.

Agnes SMITH was born in Independence Co. in 1860. I need to know who her
parents were. There is a possibility that her father was named Jesse Smith.

I am looking for a Willis L. Pierce who lived in Independence County
in the 1900 census. He lived in Desha, Richland Twp. He was 41 years
old at the time. Wife named Lillan M., age 15. Mother-in-law named
Fannie Allmong, age 36. Any info would be great.

Independence County, Moorefield. I believe he died in 1926.

Hiram and Nancy Dawson came to Lawrence/Independence County prior to
1860. Their son General Coffee Dawson settled in Sandtown Area near Cave
City, Arkansas, his son James Carroll and wife Ollie Pink Frasier did, as
did their son Clarence Sr. Family has spread out over the US and we
need information to continue our search.

Richard Montgomery BURNETT, Civil War Veteran, died in Sulphur Rock,
Independence Co., AR. 12-Jan-1882. Is he buried in an Independence Co.,
AR. cemetery? Was there a write up in the local paper on his death.?
I live in Franklin Co., Tn. and can do look-ups if needed.

My gggrandfather was Harris Gilliam from Franklin Co., TN, born 1837. Harris Gilliam
married Elizabeth Cochran, daughter of Elizabeth (was her maiden name Womack?)
and John G. Cochran in 1857 in Independence Co., AR. Harris and Elizabeth's son
Francis Marion Gilliam married Laura Ashby who was the daughter of Elizabeth Cason and
John L. Ashby. Francis Marion had a sister named Martha who married James
Young also in Independence Co. A sister, Mary or Amanda or Mary Amanda,
reportedly died in a fire in Independence Co. near Cord or Dowdy sometime in
the 1870's. I need any information on these families anyone has. I'm
particulary looking for Harris after 1867. He may have gone to ILL or MO. I
have tons of information on the Gilliams before Independence Co. I am willing
to share. I know very little about the Youngs and Cochrans. Descendents of
some of these people are buried in Union Cemetery on Hwy 25 between Cord and Saffell including Francis Marion Gilliam and his descendents. I am also intrested in a Cemetery book on Independence Co. If you can help please E-Mail to JaniceRey@aol.com or write to 5116 Horn Lane ,

Is there a cemetery list of graves in the Pleasant Plains Cemetery? I know that my gggmother Elizabeth Millikin was buried there and I was wondering if her husband William John Millikin was also buried there even though I didn't find a grave.

BATESVILLE AREA:
Looking for info on JENNIE WISE, born in HOLLY SPRINGS, MISS about 1860-70.
I believe her maiden name was WEBSTER. She might have a brother named JAMES
and a sister named FANNIE BASS ( FANNIE BASS' given name was SARAH FRANCES
WEBSTER). 1906 Woodruff County newspaper states, "Jennie Wise of Batesville visited
her sister, Fannie Bass." Any info would be helpful.
