from the Newport Daily Independent, October 2, 1920:
At 2:30 Friday afternoon on October the first, Mrs. Eliza H. Guynn passed away,
surrounded by her family circle, at the age of almost 82 years. She was born in
Independence County, just three years after Arkansas was admitted into the union
of states, and has spent her entire life in Independence and Jackson County.
In early life, she joined the Methodist Church, but soon after marrying John Q. Guynn,
deceased, she joined the Christian Church and has all of those years been a faithful
member, and until she became an invalid, was active in all the church's interests.
Just a few days before the end she expressed a desire to her pastor to once more be
allowed the privilege of communicating, and to grant her last wish the paster and some
of her friends met at her home and in the silent sick chamber, the Scriptures were read
and the sacrament served. During her long illness, embracing a number of years, she was
patient and humble with never a murmur of complaint.
The funeral was held this afternoon at 2:30 from the home conducted by her pastor,
Rev. C. Bridenthal of the Christian Church, assisted by Rev. W. F. Evans of the Methodist
Church, burial following at the Walnut Grove [Cemetery in Newport, Arkansas].
Surviving is one child, a daughter, Mrs. Minnie Guynn and grandson, Heard Guynn, to whom
the sympathy of friends is extended in their sorrow.
