In 1860 census William H. COWELL born in 1822 (where ?) and his wife Lavina
COLEMAN born 1833 were living in White River Township (P. O. Sulphur Rock, AR)
with their children. The children are Albert, Sarah A., Mary E. (mine), and
Louise (?). Living with them were Lavina's parents George and Rebecca COLEMAN
from N.C. George was 75 and Rebecca was 68. I'm sure the older COLEMANS

Cape Girardeau Co, MO, spent some time in Butler Co, MO, before finally moving
to Jackson Co, AR, and then to Independence Co, AR, where he died in August
1874 according to Goodspeed's History of NE AR. A son, Thomas Jr. stayed in
Jackson Co. while another son Isaac may have gone to Independence Co. with his

Jennings in Independence County. Clayton Jennings was supposed to have fought
in the Civil War. After he died, she married a Mr. Sanders. This would be in
the 1870s-1890s, I think. Her children were Charles Jennings and his half-

ggg-grandfather Richard Callaway disappeared in the Civil War. The spelling changed
due to the lack of knowledge by his 3 children. I have been trying to find out
what happened to him after he went off to war. He was never heard from again
and no one has any record that I have found of what unit he was in. Any

Griffin. I discovered a land sale 1890 to Griffin, Wiliam Turner Sec. No. 19
(T) 14N (R) 7W 160 acres 1890-04-16. This is just for reference. William Turner
lived in Independence County in the late 1800's. I understood that (my)
Griffin's came from TN. There was an R.H. Griffin in the Sulphur Rock 38th
Arkansas Infantry with the rank of 2LT age 27 in 1863 Aug 6th. This would fit
the age to be the father of William Turner. Do you have any reference to these

Does anyone in Independence County know the location of the grave site of Caleb
and Jensie Jane Bales? He died 15 Jan 1862 and she later. I have searched the
courthouse records and many cemeteries in Independence Co without any success.
Does anyone by chance on the name of the father of Caleb Bales? He was born in
VA about 1807 and married Jensie on 01 Jan 1834 at Batesville. Marriage license
on file in Batesville Court House. Jensie was a Cherokee. Children were:

to this couple was Mary Jo TRACY in 1860 in the same twps.. Any information of

Sarah (1863 IL), who married William Buckles, and Mollie (1865 IL), who married
a KING. They arrived in Independence Co., Arkansas in the early 1880's. Mollie

Researching MATHENY surname who were in Independence County, Ark in 1860 and
1870...would like to correspond with descendants or anyone researching this
name....I will share the info that I have......the Mathenys were from North
Carolina. They came to Middle Tennessee, then to West Tennessee, then some went
on into Arkansas.....other name researching from Arkansas is Oakley.......thank

Jeff Townsend was born in 1897 at Newark,Ark. His father was
"Pet",John Peter Townsend and mother was Fannie Francis
Pollen-Townsend. Jeff had a sister Rosetta Townsend. Any information on this
