I am interested in hearing from anyone related to the Gambill family that settled in Independence County, Arkansas in the mid-1800s. The Gambills were from Middle Tennessee. My great-great-grandfather was John Gambill, who with his wife Candes Wood, settled in Independence County, probably in the 1850's. One of their daughters, Louisa W. Gambill, married John M. Crumley (my great- grandparents). John and Candes later moved to Texas, but I have reason to believe some Gambills remained in Independence County, as there is a Gambill cemetery located there. I want to know where in Tennessee the Gambills came from, and their connection (if any) to the Gambills who lived in Tennessee.

Independence County, Washington Twp.
We are seeking any information on the mystery man of my family, my paternal Grandfather, Calvin Frank WEBBER, born 21 March, 1844 in WASHINGTON, Arkansas. We don't know which of the Washingtons in Arkansas that is; the County of that name, one of the two Towns or of the thirteen Townships in the state. At any rate I do know from the family bible that his mother's given name was Nancy and that on the 16th of August, 1876 he married Matilda Frances (Fannie) OWENS in Mena, Polk County, Arkansas. She was born 9 Feb, 1859 in Mena delivered most of the nine children she bore to Frank in Hot Springs, Garland County, Arkansas, died 9 Apr, 1912 back in Mena and was buried in the same Owens Chapel Cemetery outside Mena, where Frank was buried after his death 16 Aug, 1900. We know a good deal about most of their descendants, but nothing more of Grand-dad.
If you could enlighten us on any point concerning this mystery man, the entire WEBBER family will be eternally grateful, and I thank you.

Griffin, Dennis Edward February 9, 1998
My great-grandfather was Layfette Payne Griffin. His father was William Turner Griffin. I discovered a land sale 1890 to Griffin, Wiliam Turner Sec. No. 19 (T) 14N (R) 7W 160 acres 1890-04-16. This is just for reference. William Turner lived in Independence County in the late 1800's. I understood that (my) Griffin's came from TN. There was an R.H. Griffin in the Sulphur Rock 38th Arkansas Infantry with the rank of 2LT age 27 in 1863 Aug 6th. This would fit the age to be the father of William Turner. Do you have any reference to these names or any possible connection? Any help would be appreciated. Thank You, Dennis Griffin

He was born in VA about 1807 and married Jensie on 01 Jan 1834 at Batesville. Marriage license on file in Batesville Court House. Jensie was a Cherokee. Children were: Willard, William, James, David, Francis, Dinah, Manerva, John Benjamin Franklin (my gg-grandfather), and Celia. You are welcome to any data I have on the Bales. Thank you. Raymond D.
