I am looking for any information on William Waggoner, b1866 in Illinois. His family lived in and around Independence County. He married Mary Elizabeth Estes and had at least 3 children, Charles, Sarah and Polly Ann. Charles was killed in WWI and in suppose to be buried at Mt. Zion cemetery near Newark. Sarah married Isom Capps first then later married Henry Roberts. Polly Ann married Elmer McPike. William also married a native American from Oklahoma between 1900 and 1910. Her name is listed on the 1910 census as Suid. She brought children into the marriage and I believe the two of them had at least one child. I know nothing about Mary Elizabeth Estes except she was suppose to have relative around Paroquet, a sister I think. Any information at all will be appreciated.

Kelly Bernal July 31, 2000
Hi my name is Kelly Bernal, and I am descended from some Sherrills out of Arkansas. Specifically my ggggg grand mother Mary Ellen Sherrill b. circa 1854 and her sister Rachel b. 1858 were brought back from Arkansas during the Civil War by a Sherrill relative and returned to Iron /Reynolds Co., Mo. They grew up and married John and Jasper Marler. There is a link between Arkansas and Missouri for the Marlers as well. The story goes the father died in Arkansas, and they were sent home for safe keeping due to the Civil War. Their mother's Indian name was Morning Star. I don't know her non-Indian name or their father's first name. I can tell by doing research that the Sherrill family came from NC to Arkansas possibly via Tennessee. The girls were returned to Missouri to live with John Wesley, Benjamin, and Alexander Sherrill. They were supposed to have lived at the head of the White River; their father's name may have been Jesse Sherrill. Thanks, Kelly

Timothy Ray Henderson May 11, 2000
I was just informed 2 weeks ago by most elderly living Henderson relative that my two Great Great Grandpa's were buried in a graveyard on a guy's property. This guy's name was Clyde Griffin, who is now dead and he left his property to his son which was Frank Taylor Griffin who is dead now, too. He still has a son and daughter still living. The son is Robert Griffin, he owns and operates Griffin Seed and Grain Inc. Daughter who now lives on the property that my Great Great Grandpa's and one Great Great Grandma is buried at. I contacted these people and they have been very helpful with helping narrow my search. They said that the County doesn't even recognize this land as being a graveyard and that it's kept up by them, since it's next door to their residence. It's a place called Mt. Carmel roughly 3-4 miles outside Newark, Arkansas. My Great Great Grandpa's and Great Great Grandma doesn't even have a grave stone. And I was told that rumor has it that they may have put the road over some of the old graves since some of the old graves hadn't any markings after so many years. Well, I'm only 29 years old and just now finding out all my family history and this supposed road over some graves story has me curious as if they did it and could tell. I think that it's horrible if it's true. Of course it's a mistake that couldn't be helped since records of this stuff hasn't been kept too good back then and the fact the so many families in this area were poor and didn't have a lot of money that they couldn't afford some better grave markings, but regardless of that. What could be done to verify that this story isn't true, and what could I do to find out that if there are other people buried there and maybe get them some markers that way they can be identified and not forgotten like they have been? I would appreciate your help with this matter you can contact me at work or home or e-mail I hope you can help me?

Emps Hampton & his family lived in Marion County, AR since 1850. However, I could not find any of them in the 1900 census. I have not been able to locate Emps & Nora's marriage record in Marion County or surrounding counties. An SS # application copy of their oldest son, John Morris, shows his birth to be in Swifton, AR, born Nov. 15, 1907. Any help with this family would be much appreciated.

Interested in finding information on father of parental great grandfather John Jackson Roberson, August 19, 1852, born White River Arkansas, possibly White River near Jackson Port. Mother of John Jackson Roberson is stated as being Annie Eastwood, married to James F. or John J. Roberson. Unknown Roberson died ca. 1852 in or near the birth place of his son. There is a possible Madison County, Alabama connection with this Roberson family. The movements of the mother and child after the death of the father coincide with many that moved to Arkansas and Northern Louisiana from Madison County. Spelling variations possible Roberson/Robertson/Robinson.

Rosalyn Rutledge Alsobrook11 January 2000
Can anyone verify if Nathan Franklin Rutledge was still in Independence County in 1870?

Rosalyn Rutledge Alsobrook January 13, 2000
The census indexes have a William Rutledge there in the White River Township in 1860 (page 153) and in the Green Briar township in 1870 (page 097). Does anyone know if that is William D Rutledge born in NC on January 17, 1806 and who married Mary Howell about 1827 or 1828? Mary was born January 25, 1807 but I don't know where. Sadly, I have no death dates or places for either. They had the following children. David, Jane, Martha, John, George W, Nathan Franklin, William Dean, and Mary. Most children (perhaps all) were born in Tennessee. William Dean was born April 15, 1839 (TN) and may or may not have followed his father on to Arkansas. The listings could be about him, I suppose. All I know about this son is that he married a "Susie". What I do know is that Nathan Franklin did follow his father to Arkansas. That's my great-great grandfather and in 1860 he was in Independence County in the Big Bottom Township. (which explains a lot about us descendants) This Nathan Franklin had a son named William Arch b. 1861 so I don't think the listings are about that William. Obviously, William D. is my great-great-great grandfather. William Arch was my great grandfather. Any information about any members of this family will be greatly appreciated. -- Rosalyn Alsobrook
