There is a big difference between the game's Strategy Screen and
Tactics Screen. On the Strategy Screen, you can create new units
and units with experience can level up. When your units are arranged
the way you want, you begin Operations. You begin by posting units in your deployment bases, then moving them out into battle. After completing your turn, you exit by ending your Army's phase (Turn). Then it is the Enemy Army's turn. You cycle back and forth until a set number of turns are reached, or one side's victory conditions have been met on that map. |

Awareness of Unit Fighting Compatibility is crucial to seizing victory.
For example, against ground weapons the overwhelming favorite is the Tank.
But the Tank has a poor attack against Aircraft weapons. Against Aircraft
Weapons, the best weapon to use is an Anti-Air vehicle which has a powerful
airburst strike. Every Weapon has strengths and weaknesses in relation to other units. A diagram showing the relationship between various unit classifications and their Fighting compatibility is shown to the right. Always carefullly consider Fighting compatibility when planning your unit attacks.

The place where the most fighting occurs is the Front line. Keeping the
Enemy out of your rear area so that you can perform construction work
undisturbed is essential. Construction units are the weakest. Also
they can't capture cities and Airports, only Infantry units can. Tank
units have a high durability rating, they can act as a "shield" to
protect them. However the Tank cannot protect from Airplane weapons
and Indirect fire weapons. You should push the front line out a few hexes beyond your objectives, to make it safe for Infantry and Construction vehicles to operate there.
To enable Front line construction, Enemy units have been cleared out.

POINT 1 - Concentrate your forces to deliver a crushing blow!
When an Enemy unit is isolated, many of your units can concentrate their attacks to crush it. This is the best way to maximize damage to the Enemy while minimizing the damage you receive. In general, you should try to keep the Enemy dispersed, while keeping your forces concentrated. The Enemies deployment sites should be carefully considered, since they can suddenly move new units into the battle from there. ![]() Enemy unit has been isolated, now concentrated fire combines to annihilate him. |
POINT 2 - Use Terrain Effects to Maximum Benefit!
Terrain provides Terrain effects. Its essential to always factor this into your battle planning. Try to locate your units in high effect terrain, conversely try to keep the Enemy out of this terrain. If the Enemy is already positioned there, then Terrain Attacks rather than Weapon Attacks are valid in this case. ![]() If a unit is located in high effect terrain, then weapon attacks will do little damage to it. |
POINT 3 - Keep Your Supply Route Open; Cut Enemy's Supply Line!
Even powerful units are crippled when they run out of supplies. Securing your Army's supply route is critical for you to be able to continue the battle. Conversely it is important to cut the Enemy's supply line by attacking his supply trucks and bombing his cities. To destroy the Enemy Front line, using these tactics will prove effective. ![]() Supply vehicles are an effective means of keeping your Front line units supplied with Fuel and Ammo. |
|
Your Army's original units when the campaign starts are listed in the unit
table to the right. In the initial re-org prior to scenario 1, there are
some areas lacking which should be built up first. On the [Tactics Screen]
you can't convert units and and new units that are formed
start out very weak. Forming new units on the [Strategic Screen]
allows them to start out at full strength and damaged units can be brought
up to full strength immediately. For Ground Units, you should form 3 to 4 more Medium or Light Tank units, 1 to 2 more Recon units, and 5 to 6 additional Infantry units. Also we suggest that you form 2 more Supply Carts and 2 additional Bulldozers. Concerning Aircraft units we feel that adding 3 to 4 more Dive Bomber units will allow your Ground units to advance much more easily. |

On this large map, to successfully complete your mission, you must advance
from the NW section of the map to the Southeast. Once you capture the
cities of [Shebriche] and [Gronzionz] you will have enough VP to end
the scenario. Your units should divide into two groups, travelling down
separate (A route and B route) invasion paths. A route units should head Southwards from their HQ, capturing the cities along the way towards [Shebriche]. B route units should head East from their HQ to link up with 3rd Army and then turn South to drive to [Gronzionz]. On the B route Enemy forces are small and 3rd Army will assist you, so its OK for you to only send a few units this way. We suggest sending 70% of your forces on the A route and 30% of your forces on the B route. You need to deploy some Recon units with high Search for Enemy range
to locate the enemy. You also need to deploy Tank units to attack
them once they have been located. East of your starting HQ is the city of [Koshechezina]. In order to capture it and other cities, you should deploy 2 or 3 Infantry units. You should deploy Fighters at your Airport, to deal with any Enemy Aircraft. After you have removed the threat of Enemy Fighters, you are free to deploy Dive Bombers to protect the flank of Ground units. After the initial set of Deployments have been used to establish a solid front line of Tanks, Aircraft Deployment usually ends. Don't forget to eventually deploy your rear echelon units like Supply Vehicles and Bulldozers. ![]() Units can deploy at facilities located within 5 hexes of your HQ. At first only 14 units can deploy. |
![]() |
|
You should begin by deploying a Recon unit to Search for Enemies near your HQ.
The best recon vehicles have a search range of 5 hexes. Airplanes can also be
used to Search for Enemies, however they can't detect enemy units located in
Forest terrain. If a unit has a poor Search range, it is unsuitable for
scouting. Units should not enter areas that have not been scouted yet,
due to the risk of an ambush. [Koshechezina] will be protected by Enemy units. These Enemies must be located before being engaged by your Tanks. Cities that you control have a search radius of 1, anything beyond that will not be seen. Keep Enemy units away from your entry area. Use Medium and Light tank attacks to annihilate them. Secure the area around the city of [Koshechezina] so that your Infantry can safely capture it. Vehicles and Bulldozers. |
![]() After Medium Tanks fire their weapons to annihilate the Enemy, quickly have your Infantry capture [Koshechezina]. |
|
Search for Enemy confirms Enemy presence. You can't attack Enemies that
have not been spotted. Worse, if you carelessly advance into unknown
territory and move next to a Enemy unit you have to stop and you
receive a surprise attack. The unit best suited to scouting is the Recon unit. However, it is not very good at fighting. If you are playing with the Search for Enemy rule turned off, you can not bother with deploying these units. Using [Rule] menu, to turn [Search for Enemy] during your Army phase OFF will make it much easier to engage the Enemy. Note: if the Difficulty degree was set to HARD, then the [Search for Enemy] rule cannot be toggled off. |
![]() The best unit to use to Search for Enemy is the Recon vehicle. This unit has an extremely wide Search for Enemy range of 5 hexes. |
|
Invasion forces taking the A route after removing any Enemy forces from
the area should aim at capturing the city of (Byrushi) and nearby airport
located to the South of your starting HQ. Units taking the B route should
advance East, capture the city of (Koshechezina), clear out any Enemy
units in the vicinity, and then link up with 3rd Army. Both routes will
be strongly defended by Infantry units, a hard fight is expected. The A route has an unusually heavy concentration of Forest terrain. Enemies located in Forest terrain will be difficult to remove. If only ground units are available, then the enemy will need to be encircled and gradually worn down. Dive Bombers can make effective terrain attacks in order to quickly remove the enemy. |

Aircraft Weapons are treated differently than Ground Weapons. When Aircraft
Weapons run out of fuel, they crash and are lost. To prevent this, keep
a close watch on Aircraft Fuel levels. When an Aircraft's fuel capacity
is small, this problem is magnified. In order to refill an Aircraft's fuel tanks, it must return to one of your Army's airports and enter storage. Larger planes require a larger size Airport to be able to take-off again. Bulldozers can be used to expand an Airports size, allowing more Aircraft to be stored there and larger planes to take off. |
![]() When an Aircraft's fuel is half consumed, a Staff officer will warn that the unit has insufficient fuel. The Aircraft should land at a nearby Airport and enter storage in order to refuel. |
|
On the A route, surviving Enemy forces blocking the path to [Cherusk] should be
eliminated by a spirited attack. Afterwards, a defensive line anchored along
the river bank should be established, allowing your units crush any Enemy
Infantry that attempt to cross the Bridge.
Also capture cities and airports in the area and allow your Bulldozers to
build them up. Priority should be given to building up Airports to allow
your Aircraft to make faster round trips to the Front Line. On the B route, units should advance pressing the Front Line South to the cities of [Sukrushebi] and [Stargrad Gudasuki]. Capture them in co-operation with 3rd Army units. When AA guns are encountered, Ground units and Aircraft units must co-operate to crush them. |
![]() A defensive line is built along the river to limit the advance of Enemy units |
|
Aircraft Weapons and Ground Weapons both use Fuel to move. When
an Aircraft runs out of fuel, it crashes. When a Ground Unit
runs out of fuel, it can no longer move. There are two ways to resupply a Ground Unit. The unit can either return to Storage at a City or Supply Depot or it can be resupplied from an adjacent Supply Truck. Having enough Supply Trucks to keep your advance moving is essential. Supply Trucks consume materials when resupplying other units. They need to return periodically to a City or Supply Depot to replenish their supply of materials. Note that a unit that draws supply while in storage will partially repair some battle damage, whereas a unit drawing supply from an adjacent supply truck will not repair any battle damage. ![]() When the [Auto Supply] option is checked, it is much easier to keep all your units supplied. |

|
Units on the A route should drive Southwards towards the final objective of
[Shebriche]. Any surplus units can divert to capture the cities of [Honsoe] and
[Touhora]. Units on the B route should advance Southwards from the city of [Sukruchi] establishing a new Front Line there. Also watch out for Enemy Fighters that show up at this time. Protect your Dive Bombers with Fighters and Fighter/Bombers. Also shooting down Enemy Dive Bombers with your Fighters is essential to guard your Ground Units from Devastating attacks. |

|
Your units should close in and capture the ultimate objective cities of
[Shebriche] and [Guronzionz]. Some Enemy Anti-Aircraft guns can be expected,
but their numbers are small and they can be ignored. Your Aircraft should attack
and destroy any Enemy Anti-Tank guns. Medium Tank units are the heart of your
Ground Units, but only Infantry can capture cities. Once the two main objective cities are captured, the scenario is cleared. Infantry units should accompany your advance, so they are in position to capture these cities as soon as they are cleared of Enemy units. Depending on the Infantry unit's experience level, it might require 2 turns to capture these cities so be careful about leaving the Infantry exposed. |
![]() Enemy units are deployed around the objective cities. Violent resistance is expected. Do not lose focus as you drive towards these final goals. |
|
Units that fight gain experience. A unit with enough experience can trade up
to a weapon with greater effectiveness. A unit can Level up to a new Weapon system
with the [Convert] command. To see what Level up models are available for
various weapon catagories, use the [Level Up Table]. As the campaign progresses, your Enemies will introduce more powerful units to oppose you. Steadily strengthening your Army thus becomes very important. |
![]() Before Scenario 1, you are able to convert some of your units to better models. Don't forget to do this. |
|
After the [Danzig Corridor Recovery] scenario has been cleared, you have the
choice between the [Posen Plains Breakthrough] and the [East Prussian Drive]
scenarios. Both scenarios aim at completing the encirclement of Warsaw
by driving East. After selecting the Scenario to play, you then need to
decide which German Army force to direct in the scenario. Make good use of the funds you obtained from Scenario 1 to lead the German Army to victory. |
![]() After Scenario 1 breakthrough, the Player must select the next scenario to clear. |
