Cloth, Paper, Scissors.
You rough up w/sandpaper and then refinish it with paint and rubberstamping or collaging. The one top left was submitted to the magazine for their Photo Challenge entitled "Who are you really?".  It was taken in 1985 after my solo adventure in Europe.

Thought I should smudge address for privacy, but this gives you a sense of how you can play with fonts.
"Ransom" & "GF Halda" used above from fontfreak.com

"TrixieExtra" is another good font there.

When people see the chalk cards above, they often e-mail me asking how to do Chalk Resist. So I thought I'd just explain it here once and for all:  Chalk Resist is a very easy technique. Bold images or images that are not extremely detailed work best. One thing I really like about this technique is that you can make a great card with a unique look with little or no layering. All you need is:

light cardstock (I use white)
either a clear embossing pad or a versamark pad
chalk (I have the little chalk squares from Stampin Up, but I bet almost any kind of chalk would work)
and stamps of course!   ;-)

1. I rub a cotton ball in some chalk and rub that color on the upper or lower half the CS.
2. Then I get another cotton ball, rub it into another color and rub that on the other half of the CS.
3. I take my image and ink it up on the embossing pad or versamark pad. Stamp the image where you want it on the CS.
4. Depending on the type of CS, you can either let the ink air dry or you can heat set it.
    DO NOT USE EMBOSSING POWDER.
5. Rub either applicators or q-tips into the colors of chalk you want and apply them to the image that was stamped. It's kind of hard to see, and this may or may not be a problem depending on your image. Good lighting could help.

Voila, you're all set! The ink soaks up the chalk and poof, the colors really stand out. (It really doesn't make sense that it's called chalk resist.)

I've been interested in Rubber Stamping for a very, very long time, but never knew how to go about getting started.  I finally investigated by looking it up online.  Almost instantly, I found a Stamping Up demonstrator in my town and I've been hooked since July 1999.  I've only been stamping now for about a year and a half.  One thing that's great about this craft, is that it doesn't take long to advance. Be sure and visit my List of Links to all sorts of classes done and techniques provided online.

I happen to live in a town where there really aren't any stamping stores, so getting what I want is difficult and has to be done through the mail.  Family members or friends not sure what to get me for my birthday or Christmas? Check my WISH LIST.  The answer is definitely there!

Cyberstampers Across the Internet is a great source of information. At times there are online conventions going on and when they are, there are also online CLASSES for various techniques. These classes are held through chats. and chat transcripts are available at the site. (See the Internet Relay Chat information two paragraphs down.)  Going to a real live convention? Check out:  Convention Tips

If you are interested in chatting about stamping, I'm told there's ALWAYS someone in Cyberstampers.  You can get to that chat either through the web at a link in the Craft Vendor Mall or you can use chat software.  They also hold an official Stamp Club Meeting/Chat every Thursday at 9 P.M. EST.  Going to these chats on the web can be quite cumbersome.  For one thing, you  are constantly bombarded with ads. Web chats give you little control and no bells and whistles.

Internet Relay Chat software provides for a much more pleasant chat experience. You can use mIRC shareware for Windows and Ircle shareware McIntosh. Another windows IRC software which I haven't tried but hear is good is called Pirch.  These are easy to download and FUN to use.  They are FREE but if you find that you do use them a lot, it's a courtesy and a good idea to pay the registration fee.  IRC Server - irc.dm.net, Port 6667, #cyberstampers.
