If you have yet to commit to constructing your own props for your Halloween scare, I would suggest this project as your first. With the materials involved, and the time invested this project gets quick results and awesome satisfaction.

 

Materials needed for this project are:

a. Wire hangers

b. Wide masking tape

c. Pliers/wire cutters

STEP 1. To begin this project, with a pair of pliers/wire cutters cut the hook end of the hanger off. I left enough wire on each side so that I could use the hook to hang some ghost decorations. Once the hook is cut off, straighten the hanger as straight as possible.

STEP 2. With the straightened wire cut it into 12 to 14 inch lengths. I have made some with shorter lengths but the longer fingers seem more menacing.

Using 5 pieces (obviously) , I found it easier to lay them on a flat surface about 1 inch apart on top of a piece of tape, which makes control a lot easier. Take note of the different finger lengths. Fold the masking tape around the wires being careful not to bunch up the wires.

STEP 3. Once the wires are secure with the tape, you can now bend the fingers into shape. Determining where the knuckles will be, roll a piece of tape into about a 1/2 inch ball and pinch it onto the wire at the knuckle location. I have seen some with larger knuckles and they look fine. Its your toy you decide.

STEP 4. With balls in place, take a piece of tape as long as the finger and lay the long edge of the tape on the inside of the finger and wrap the finger. Do this to each finger. The more times you wrap them, the thicker they become. You can now wrap the palm and wrist.

Continue wrapping until you have created the desired effect that you want. Positioning of the fingers can still be easily made.

Options: If you want an arm, use two longer pieces of wire for two of the fingers. Or double one long wire in half forming a u shape. For special effects, I have painted some with a flat gray primer which causes an eerie look.
