WITCH'S CALDRON

The witch's caldron is one of
my favorites. It is a stand alone animated project that needs no tending
to while the scare is on. She stirs her pot contentedly while on lookers
pass by. This is a great distraction or set up for something to jump out
while the passers-by are in the safe mode.
Materials needed are:
1. A slow rotating electric drive motor,
like a rotisserie motor
2. A black plastic caldron
3. A black robe, witch's hat, and witch's
mask
4. A handle to hook from the motor to
the witch's hand
5. 1 or 2 of the skeletal hands found
on the projects page
I had my witch mounted outside on the
deck, so the little goblins would have to walk past and look up at her.
I mounted a "T" frame to one of the chairs and hung the robe over
it. adding the mask and hat, letting the wind blow the robe freely for a
body-less effect. This set-up put the witch's body looming over the table
where I mounted the motor to the table top (wrought iron mesh). How you
secure the motor to the table really doesn't matter just so the caldron
with the bottom cut out sits over the motor evenly.
Once the motor is secure, I added a black handle
to the shaft of the motor. You will have to work on the angle of
the shaft, so when it rotates, the top of the shaft (in the witch's hand)
moves freely without hitting the sides if the caldron and without coming
out of the hand. Adjustments to the arm length will need to be made to create
the stirring motion. For the hand, I used one I made from the projects page
with an arm bone about two feet long this gave me enough to work with while
adjusting the hand to the handle. I stapled the robe around the arm bone
and let it hang free. I taped the handle to the inside of the hand, and
gave it a couple shots of black spray paint to conceal it.
After fine tuning I added a green light
underneath and to one side for an eerie effect.
Some additions could be some dry ice in
the caldron, body parts hanging out of the caldron ect.
NOTE: During slow periods, I unplugged the motor so it could cool down.
