PP 7-2, p. 78: (1850 Census, Lawrence County, Kentucky) FGR from Betty Inman PP 2-1, p. 48: Obituary of Andrew J. Pennington:
Andrew Jackson Pennington was born in Lawrence County, Kentucky December 14, 1834. He grew to manhood in that county and at the age of 20 was married to Matilda Sturgell of Carter County, Kentucky. They resided in Lawrence County, Kentucky until 1865.
To them were born four girls and two boys, four of these children being at his bedside during his last hours. Two daughters, Mrs. Lavinia Blagdon of Julian, Nebraska, and Mrs. Alice Bennett of Harper, Kansas had passed on before him.
Mr. Pennington served out his full time in the Civil War and on March 25, 1865 moved to Nebraska City, Nebraska, where he resided until 1886, then moved to Sherman County, Kansas and they lived there until 1890 when he moved to Brock, Nebraska to educate his son, Ira, residing there until April 8, 1910 when he moved to Clayton, New Mexico.
Andrew J. Pennington is survived by a wife, two daughters, Mrs. Mollie Rolston of Binger, Oklahoma, and Mrs. Amanda Williams of Denver, Colorado, and two sons William Pennington of Kansas City, Kansas and Ira Pennington of Clayton.
Everyone who knew Mr. Pennington loved him. He had no malice toward anyone, was always loving and kind and though gone will not be forgotten. He was converted to the Christian faith in 1876, united with the Methodist Church and has ever since been a member.
He was 75 years, 8 months and 19 days old and would have been married 55 years on the 29th day of next November. Burial was in the Clayton Cemetery.
