Project Lifesaver provides wristband transmitters at no cost to people with Alzheimer's, Dementia, Autism, Down Syndrome or other brain-related disorders when these people have a history of wandering and becoming lost.

The Pilot Club of Huntsville is proud to be partnering with the Madison County Sheriff's Department to provide Project Lifesaver (PLS) in our community.

Over 5,000,000 people in the US have Alzheimer's and this number is expected to triple by the year 2050.  Over half of these people wander. When they become lost and are unable to seek assistance, they can become a critical emergency. It is the goal of PLS to locate these persons and return them to their families and caregivers.

The Project Lifesaver program is proving equally successful for children diagnosed with Autism.  These kids are quick, they "bolt and run", usually know no fear, and can be lost in the blink of their caregiver's eye.

Project Lifesaver is more than a passive ID bracelet. It's an active system relying on state-of-the-art technology and a specially trained search and rescue team.

Clients enrolled in the PLS program wear bracelets that emit a personalized tracking signal. When caregivers notify the Madison County Sheriff's Department that the client is missing, a search and rescue team begins searching with the mobile locater tracking system.

Search times have been reduced from hours and days to minutes. Recovery times average less than 30 minutes. Project Lifesaver seraches have been 100% successful!  In more than 1,000 PLS searches throughout the US, there have been no deaths or serious injuries.
