The Pilot Club of Huntsville was chartered in 1939. Commmunity service projects in the early years centered around the war efforts and troop support. Projects in subsequent decades included supporting visits to hospitalized veterans, Mental Health drives, purchase of equipment for Huntsville Hospital, TB Xray awareness, gift boxes for Alabama troops - first in Korea and later in Viet Nam, assistance in the restoration of the picnic area of Monte Sano, Christmas and Thanksgiving food baskets, organizing other Pilot and youth Anchor Clubs service groups in area high schools.

In 1982, the Pilot Club raised funds to implement Project Lifeline, a 911 emergency response system for the elderly and homebound. Huntsville Hospital maintained the equipment and the emergency calls. Pilot Club members remained active in the service project, performing monthly equipment tests for each subscriber until 1994, when the Project Lifeline equipment and program were assumed by HEMSI.

Current projects continue support of Pilot International's committment to prevention and education programs to prevent brain injury.  Local project activities include Project Lifesaver, BrainMindersTM, three active area high school Anchor Clubs, as well as raising funds for, and supporting, events at the Opportunity Center, Small Places, Camp ASCCA and Alzheimer's Daycare.
