Dr. Ambrose Rees was born in Bristol, England of welsh parents. This family emigrated to Quebec City, Canada in about 1820.  Dr. Rees came to New York State where he was first identified in the 1850 and 1860 Putnam Co. census as living in Cold Springs with his wife Adah M. Tuttle.

Telegraph on Dr. Ambrose Rees deathA telegram from Cold Spring, N.Y. sent to Julia A. Rees notifying her that "...Your father [Dr. Ambrose Rees] died this morning.  Funeral at 4 o'clock Sunday P.M." - dated August 23, 1862.
