Why...
Our current goal is to purchase a 12-pounder Dahlgren "Boat Howitzer." The cost of this gun will probably exceed $16,000. The original U.S.S.
Fort Henry had such a gun during the first two years of duty. This type howitzer is unique in design and was used extensively by the U.S. Navy while mounted on decks of ships, as well as taken ashore and used with expeditionary forces.
Your donation assists the U.S.S.
Fort Henry in its goals:
Educate the public on how the U.S. Navy used ships crews to operate as infantry in expeditionary forces.
We educate the public as to the behavior of sailors and marines, and the use of various arms and equipment.
We provide a living history interpretation of sailors and marines in camp, on the field, and in battle.
This is done through participation in various events, and presentations, as well as writing articles for various publications.
