At-Home Developmental Therapy

Abby is currently 4 years old and weighs about 25 pounds. If you have any specific questions, please e-mail me.

Abby is not only walking well now but actually has what we consider a run. She is wearing hard plastic inserts in her shoes that go up the sides of her feet to prevent her from under pronating. She has more issues than just that, but it has stabalized her enough to be able to run, jump, and walk backwards.

She likes to make vertical lines and circular scribbles. She enjoys using the magna-doodle and any writing or drawing utensil. Although her fine-motor skills are still lacking, it hasn't stopped her from learning more signs. Please see her updated list of signs. We have noticed her starting to make vocal approximations with some of her signs. At school she perfers communicating with her PECS notebook but at home she uses more sign and approximations. This is probably because we are the only ones who can understand her "not-so-accurate" signs. We are currently in the process of trying different verbal output devices with her.

She is being a lot more social, especially to girls. She will walk up to them and start signing about her brother or favorite activity at the time. She imitates what the children are doing and will usually join right in with them. We are very happy with the school program she is in. It is a half-day pre-school program. The district she is in does a colaboration in a day-care setting so she has a special education teacher and an assistant along with a day-care teacher and assistant. This setting allows her to be with 22 of her same age peers, six of whom are special needs children.
