TENNESSEE SONGS

compiled by Ronald R. Allen

__________

In 2001, I issued a book titled Old Tennessee Songs. It was a compilation about songs that have the word "Tennessee" in the song title, and included complete reproductions of a number of those songs.

Included as a supplement to that volume was a list of "Tennessee" songs I had managed to identify at that time. The following reproduces that list, but also includes additional songs I later discovered since that book was published. This is a list of the located "Tennessee" songs that have been written, published, and/or recorded, as of the year 2005. The list now includes well over one thousand such songs. I repeat -- this list only includes songs with the word "Tennessee" in the title and does not include many other Tennessee-related songs that do not fit that criteria.

This list was compiled from several sources, including my collection of Tennessee sheet music. A separate and more detailed listing of the songs in my personal collection of original Tennessee sheet music will also be found here on my web site. I have included here the records I've managed to find of original recordings (mostly 78 rpm records). Finally, Internet sources consulted have included the following sites : ASCAP, ACE title search ; Duke University collection of American sheet music ; Library of Congress sheet music collection ; Lester S. Levy sheet music collection, Milton S. Eisenhower Library, Johns Hopkins University ; and the Center for Popular Music, Middle Tennessee State University.

In the majority of instances I have only shown the song titles and the name(s) of the songwriter(s), without additional details. (In some instances, that was the only information located.)
