The
tree classification is named after Pierre Magnol, a botanist from
Montpellier in France.
The blossom used
in this studio shot came from a tree that once stood on Bide-A-Wee
Drive in Huntsville, Alabama. My
dear wife and her mother, Ruth, planted the tree about 1967.
The tree is no longer there.
The
photograph was created in the darkroom by printing through a
textured filter (crumpled wax paper). Each print is unique because of the special printing
technique.
Awards:
In 1991 the picture was accepted in the State of Alabama’s
juried exhibition “The
Classic Cliché, Southern Magonlia”
