Sorry, there's not much here.
But here's what there is:
My Hydrometer Stuff
If you use one, be sure it is worth a damn. Mine wasn't and caused me a lot of grief. Here is a simple procedure for accurate calibration of your hydrometer. Note that it is necessary but not sufficient to simply check that it reads 1.000 in plain water. The procedure requires only ordinary household and kitchen items, no fancy equipment. But you should be able to achieve one gravity point (.001) accuracy.
Error Analysis of Hydrometer Calibration Procedure
This goes into the gory details behind the calibration procedure and presents error sources and magnitudes. The calculations are left out but the data is presented.
Some Analysis of Hydrometer Behavior
This document is a not-very-well-organized Mathcad worksheet "html-ized" with unfamiliar software. Hope it works. Use the arrows on the black line at the top of the page to navigate from page to page. This seeks to examine why my sorry hydrometer behaved the way it did and why my other one works better.
Alternative Methods for Hydrometer Calibration
This talks a little about why I chose the way I did but also recognizes that there are other ways to do it, especially if you have the proper equipment.
