Too often people refer to church buildings as "churches." The Church is not a building, it is the body of which Christ is the Head and we are the members. The French and Spanish words for "Church" (eglise, iglesia) are much closer to the original Greek, ekkiesia, from ekkalein, to summon forth. The Church consistes of those who are summoned forth. The Church consists of people. As one televangelist so aptly put it, "The buildings are only there to keep out of the rain." The main purpose at St. Luke is the worship of God. In a very important sense, it is our only program. All of our other activities apring from our worship, are centered around it, or point toward it.
