Highland Park is a section of the city of Montgomery, Alabama. It is located just east and south of the present downtown area which is only minutes away. It is also ideally situated for reaching other key parts of the city quickly. Highland Park as a place to live has been around since 1887.
Highland Park quickly became popular due to the electric trolley system, known as the "Lightning Route", which at that time passed down the median on Highland Avenue. The availablilty of this quick and easy form of transportation to the downtown area caused a surge in development and the number of homes quadrupled in just a few short years.

Today, the trolley system may be gone from the median on Highland Avenue, but Highland Park is still a strong neighborhood close to downtown. Through the years, this neighborhood has seen a lot of changes. The ending of the trolley system in 1936 plus the ending of the local passenger train line of course brough changes to the way that people lived and travelled in the area.
In the end however, the core value of this neighborhood to the people who live here has never changed. Where it had its beginnings as a working-class neighborhood, it now encompasses a broad range of peoples from the modern working-class commuters, to young families just starting out, to retirees.
